When did being fuzzy become completely unacceptable?

I just don't understand. A frequent recurring topic on the DIS is whether one should shave or wax some part of their anatomy. The discussions on shaving and waxing run the gambit from areas not referenceable on a family friendly board , to a recent discussion on the viability of shaving arms. :confused3

When did the human race suddenly decide that we humans must rid ourselves of all our hair? I expect to see a thread soon asking "Should I let my daughter wax her head?". What the heck is going on?

It would be great for it to all go away. As a woman I sure would like an excuse to go a while without shaving my legs. :teeth:

Some people like fur. Most don't. I for one, do not like it. I'm so thankful that my dh has maybe 10 hairs on his chest! My dh appreciates my dislike of hair and that I go through the trouble of removing it from places I don't want it. My gf is married to a guy who is like a whooly mammoth. I always joke and ask her how she doesn't get hairballs!

I don't like body hair. I wax and shave all sorts of places. My husband does a little too. When was the last time you saw a gorgeous model with hair anywhere other than his or her head?

I don't think it's a "new" thing to have the shaved look on the legs and elsewhere. Look how long NAIR has been around, probably for 50+ years.

Personally, I wear a lot of shorts in the summer and bathing suits, and the clean shaven and waxed look is mostly for my benefit. I don't like the thought of not getting a wax and wearing a bathing suit.

I also get my eyebrows waxed because I like the way it makes my face look.

If I had dark hair on my arms, i'd probably get them waxed also.

I don't think that makes me vain, but it's just a personal preference.

I wish I could post a funny story from about a couple years ago...but can't ;)

Just a note here. I dont think shaving or waxing makes anybody vain or anything like that. I just wanted to clear on that point.

I also understand that women have been shaving their legs and armpits for a long time, but it has only become really commmon to shave other areas recently (I never heard of anyone shaving their arms in the 70's or 80's for example )

I love a man with hair on his chest. On the back...not so much, but I can deal with it. ;) A big hairy man makes me feel safe and secure, I also find it very sexy :goodvibes

I prefer a man to have some hair on his chest too. :goodvibes

I agree with Hound. I especially think it's odd for men to shave their arms/legs/chest. :confused3

Men who lift, shave. The reason is for the definition it gives their bodies. My XBIL owns a Gold's Gym and very very rarely do you see a man with body hair.

The only time I dont like hair on a man is if they shave their head. Bald heads and hairy chests just dont do it for me. But hairy heads and hairy chests are good.

I shave my legs, armpits, wax my eyebrows, and because this is a family board, cant go into any further details. For me, its a personal choice, nobodys ever said "hey can you wax.........".....

Dunno why I do it, I just do

I shave the normal things...legs and underarms...but that's it.

DH shaves his face, but that's it.

We don't shave anything else.

if unshaven is unacceptable i guesss my hairy faced self is in trouble huhh:)

I shave what is necessary. And I am the one to choose what is necessary. ;)

I'm the one who said it's not for vanity (not saying that's what you said either) but it's just a preference. Fortunately or unfortunately, it is popular now for men and ladies to be hairless in a lot of cultures. I'm sure if you go to some warmer climates and countries it's more common there than in Alaska.

I really have nothing I want to add to the conversation, except to say I shave.... :teeth:
