When can we use the SEARCH area again??

i love using the search area, i can type in specific things i am looking for, without duplicating posts...

It seems to have it's days. I don't know why it goes down so much, maybe too many people searching at the same time? Some days I have trouble with it, and other days it's just fine.

You might want to ask this question on the technical board.

When the server is busy, search is disabled. I search early in the morning with no problems. Try searching at different times of the day.

I believe most of the time the search capability is disabled when the server load reaches a certain threshold. The last hardware upgrade seemed to have fixed the issue, so perhaps this isn't load-related. Maybe it's the database?

If it is load-related, I fear that the boards might be running up against some pretty steep hardware requirements. They're already running, what, quad Xeons? What's next, 8-way servers? 16-way? Will NASA be the DIS' web hosting service? Or should we just skip ahead and start working on the Beowulf cluster now?

I find that you can do a search either real early in the morning, or late at night.
