When can points be transferred?

If I have and October UY and I want to transfer points to someone for them to make a reservation in October 2008, when can I transfer my 2008 points? I don't have to wait until October to transfer them to someone, do I?

I thinkI can, too. But I'm not sure. I know the points should retain their original home (VWL) and UY (October) but I'm not sure on the timing. It just wouldn't make sense to me not to be able to transfer them now so someone could use them to make a reservation during the 98 UY.

I spoke with MS about this today. It doesn't matter when your use year starts. If you have October 08 points, your only restriction is that they are transferred into someone else's 08 use year. You will not need to wait until the start of your use year. But I think the points are not good until the beginning of your use year, since they retain their year and home resort. For example you have October 08 points. You transfer them to me and I have a March use year. I can transfer them into my 08 use year (providing I have had no other transfers) but I can only use them to make reservations starting after October 1, 2008.

Cool. That should work. The person I want to transfer to needs them for an October reservation so that would be perfect! I've been trying to call MS today but the line is 100% busy so I couldn't get through to ask.

I think the only requirements are that you be within the preceding UY and be current on fees and the like.

I've been trying forever to get through to MS on the phone with no luck yesterday OR today. Anyone know what information I'll need exactly to be able to transfer points to another member? Their name? Address? Member number?

Of course, being able to transfer points can only happen if I can actually TALK to someone at MS!

I finally got through to MS. The answer is that I can transfer my Oct 08 UY points now. And the only information they need to transfer points is the other person's name and member number. Cool!

I think Dean is right...you must be within your preceding use year. I have an agreement with another DVC member to make a reservation for her using some VWL pts at the 11 month window in exchange for her transfer of 2009 BCV pts into my BCV account (We have the same use year).
We were told by MS that she would have to wait until June 2008 before she can transfer the June 2009 use year points over to me.
I have plenty of 2009 points and wanted to be able to bank them later to 2010 after the transfer.

I am really confused--maybe an example would help me. If I have Sept UY and friend has June UY and she is transferring points to me to use in June 2009, when is earliest she can transfer and can I bank those points if I don't use them--and do I bank for the June UY or my Sept UY? thanks! Elaine

She could do one of two things. Eitther transfer 2008 points now and you could bank them or she could transfer 2009 points now. The answer would have been the same starting 1 June, 2007. In the past DVC has had trouble tracking different use years on transferred points so you may have to have them track and resersve manually.

would she be borrowing the points to transfer 2009 points now? Or can you transfer and it does not count as a borrow? If she transfers 2009 points, can I still bank them later--or are they considered borrowed points which cannot be banked????

Transferred points can be Banked or Borrowed after they are transferred.
