When can I renew my Sorcerer Pass?

My kids both have a sorcerer pass that expires on 10/25/22. I want to renew it as soon as possible (just incase they raise the price or come out with new passes that have more blockout dates, etc).

Yesterday I logged in and went to https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/passes/renew/ and it said I have no passes eligible to renew. This morning I did the same and it said my kids' passes are both up for renewal. However, it only gave me the option for the Incredi-Pass, meaning I need to call DVC.

I called DVC Member Services at 9am when they opened - woohoo, no wait. But the CM I talked to said that he can't renew the pass because it wasn't 60 days yet. He said technically the pass is good until 10/25/22 at 11:59pm, so I cannot renew until 8/27/22 which is 60 calendar days after the pass expires.

I know technically tomorrow is exactly 60 calendar days from the expiration on 10/25/22, but seeing as how the website lets me renew today (although not to the Sorcerer pass) I thought I should be able to renew over the phone but the CM wouldn't let me.

Anyone have any experience with this? Should I be able to call tomorrow morning and renew? Or do I have to wait until 8/27/22 to renew? I know CMs are not always right so I figured I'd ask if anyone else had a different experience.

Thanks!

You need to wait until 60 days before October 25, which will be tomorrow, Friday, August 26. Then you can call to renew DVC Sorcerer APs. The CM calculated the 60 days incorrectly.

Thanks! I guess the website allowing me to renew early is just a bug or something - thats the only reason I thought I could renew - but the 60 calendar days makes sense as it is how Dining Reservations work and Fastpass+ when it was available. Will try calling again tomorrow. :)

The website also may have been trying to sell you an Incredi-Pass!

It was! If it let me renew to a Sorcerer Pass, I would have just done it using the website and then no need to call :). But since it only is offering the Incredi-Pass I know I need to call Member Services.

I was able to call this morning and renew at exactly the 60 day mark - I think the potential issue I ran into is that DVC Member Services first verifies your eligibility for the DVC Sorcerer pass and then sends you over to ticketing to complete the AP transaction. So they act as a "gate" to getting to ticketing. If the DVC CM decides it is too early or you're not eligible you won't get past them. In my case, I was still too early yesterday since it was 61 days before - but if I got that same CM that wanted me to wait until 59 days before expiration (the CM said to call back on 8/27/22) - I may have been denied again today. In the end it probably isn't that big of a deal - I am just antsy and wanted to make my park pass reservations in December and also wanted to make sure Disney didn't suddenly introduce new APs or increase the price, so I'm happy to have gotten it done asap.

This now makes sense since what they issue is an actual AP with the dates now the actual renewal timeframe vs. the old voucher system that needs to be activated at GR. I wonder how its going to go for those who got the AP last year who were not eligible when they attempt to renew.

Yeah I was told I don't need to activate my pass at guest relations anymore (great!), but I was told that I needed to have my DVC Digital Membership card (that shows "DVC Y") available to show when my kids scan in for the first time during their next trip.

For people who are not eligible, they may be in trouble if they actually check for the "DVC Y" in MagicMobile.

Hmm. I wonder what would happen if you weren’t with them to show the DVC Y? As long as they’re members of your household, they’re eligible to have a Sorcerer AP. And your eligibility to buy them was presumably confirmed by MS when you bought them on the phone.

That is an interesting piece of info about the kids.

Interesting. I renewed my Sorcerer passes this morning and they didn’t mention that to me about the kids passes. Although, I’ll probably go by Guest Services anyway to get the physical card.

Yeah its a good question - I didn't even think about it since I'll be with them when they first use it. Both of my kids have the under 10 year old pass. Previously a trip to guest services was required to activate it the first time though and that used to require showing your blue card IIRC, so it doesn't seem like it would be much different I don't think?

No, this won't be much different than activating at GR. But in the past I've read that if a child (older, such as college age) was going to WDW without the DVC owner parent and needed to buy/renew an AP, the parent had to call MS to buy the AP and then send copies of the parent's ID and DVC membership card with the child so that the child could pick up their AP at GR. Now that activation at GR is no longer required, and also that in place of membership cards we have just the DVC Y in our MagicMobile on our cell phones, I wonder how Disney is going to handle similar situations - maybe allow the child to show a screen shot of the parent's MagicMobile with the DVC Y?

My 15 yr old grandson tried to show a screen shot of his moms dvc digital membership card in order to get a discount on a purchase and was denied. Was told they couldn’t accept a screen shot.

Yes, only the member themselves is eligible to get a DVC discount on food or merchandise. We're discussing whether an older child, who's eligible to have a DVC discounted AP because of being a household member of the DVC owner, has to show some proof of that ownership at the park entrance, even though the owner already proved ownership when buying the AP on the phone.
