When can I Bank AKV points if my occupancy date of Dec. 1st 07?

Hi All,

I've placed my deposit for AKV and will be finalizing my DVC purchase in the next week or so. I chose a user year of March 1st with an occupancy date of December 1st. Now I'm wondering, will I be able to bank 50% of my 2007 points shortly after closing, or do I have to wait until after my December 1st occupancy date to bank any points?

(I'm concerned because it's my understanding if I have to wait until Dec. 1st before banking, my March user year will only allow me to bank 25% of my 2007 points, and I only expect to use half my 2007 points before they would expire on March 1st 2008.)

By 'occupancy date' I presume you mean the date your particular villa purchase building completes construction and is opened for reservations.

You can bank 100% of your points within the 1st 6 months of your use year, so that would be to the end of August. However with a new contract MS allows banking even after that date, but you would need to do it right away. So if you want you can bank all the points right after your contract closes, even if that's after the end of August.

If you expect to use half your points during UY 2007, then you can simply bank the other half during the 50% window. You would be banking them well past the 'occupancy dates' so there shouldn't be any issues. You would have to the end of November to bank them. You would not need to wait until Dec 1st to do the banking transaction.

Keep in mind that the 50% window means up to 50% of your points, including points already banked. So if when your contract closed, you banked 50% right away, saving the other 50% for a future reservation, and then during the 50% window decide you want to bank the remaining 50%, you could not since you already would have 50% already banked.

You don't have to wait until you close to start making reservations and/or to bank the points. Once the points are in your account, you can call MS to make reservations, bank points, etc. With an occupancy date of Dec 1st, you cannot take a trip on those points any earlier than that date, but you can call MS to make reservations for travel dates on/after Dec 1st as soon as the points are in your account.

Yes you can bank points prior to your occupancy date. Your occupancy date affects only one thing: it determines the earliest date a vacation using those points can begin.

So the points show up in my account prior to December 1st? If so, how long after closing will my point account become active?

Since you are buying directly from Disney, your account will be set up long before closing. It may be active already. Did your guide give you your membership number? If so, give MS a call (they are open today until 5pm) and see if you are in the system.

Your closing will not occur for several more weeks. It's really kind of a "non event" when you purchase directly from Disney because the points will be in your account soon after you pay your deposit. So usually within days of paying your deposit, you can start making reservations, you can bank points, etc. You do not need to wait until closing and you do not need to wait until your occupancy date.

LisaS is right we bought AKV at the end of July and the day after I gave the deposit we could book or bank point the only thing was the booking had to be after Sept 1st occupancy date, which was no problen for us as we aren;t travelling til October.
