When are the DVC units at DL opening

Does anyone know or have you heard a rumor about when the DVC units will be opening at Disneyland?

We have friends who live out there and want to plan a visit, but we want to wait until the DVC at the Grand Californian is going to be open so we can treat them to a few nights there.

It doesn't seem wise to use points for hotel rooms at the DL resorts as it is a lot of points for standard rooms.

I believe the statement from DVC is 'end of 2009'. Recent rumors are that they are ahead of schedule and could open summer of 2009. One thing to note, is that since only 50 units are being built, it might be difficult to book at the 7th month mark. Additional info is available in the below thread...
