Do you need to "order" a cupcake for a birthday when adding a birthday celebration to a dining reservation? When I called and added it, I was told I could call a "cake hotline" for any special cakes. Does this include ordering a cupcake, or does that usually come with adding the celebration? Did I need to specially request a cupcake when making the reservation?

TIA!

I celebrated my birthday here in 2009 and added it to all my dining reservations. Most places gave me a cupcake, card or confetti. A few didn't do anything. You don't need to order a cupcake.

Adding the celebration is just a note on the reservation. Sometimes you get a little something extra. Sometimes you don't. You can't ask. Well, I guess you could, but I'd feel awfully uncomfortable asking for a free cupcake.

If it's important for the person to have a cake, then you will have to order one and pay for it.

Can you add a celebration to an online ADR or do I have to call? Our 180 days from our Disneymoon is Wednesday!

Unless you really want a cake I won't order one. We have celebrated my sons Birthday for the past 2 years and they have given a cupcake or ice-cream at every place we go. Just mention it to the waitress. They can afford to give you a cupcake......

For birthdays, anniversies, and other celebrations,
no restaurant is that much better than another restaurant.

1) Acknowledgment is a matter of the CM's personal initiative.
2) It also depends upon how much they like you as a guest.
3) CM's can do a lot, or they can do nothing at all.
. . . they are under no obligation to give goodies or even acknowledge, or
. . . they can go way overboard and give lots of gifts to a guest
4) The CM's have a lot of leeway of things to do or not do for you.
5) Have your anniversary-birthday-celebration noted on the ressie and ADR's.
6) Some of the things a CM can do for free are
. . . decorate table with Mickey confetti
. . . best table location
. . . special personalized menu
. . . character-autographed birthday cards
. . . balloons
. . . wine or champagne or Shirley Temples
. . . appetizers or desserts
. . . cakes
. . . cupcake with candle (almost always available for the asking)
. . . placemats autographed by characters
. . . free appy pr free dessert
. . . fruit basket or wine basket
7) Caveat: If there are multiple celebrations for people during a trip
. . . do not do separate celebration locations or tables
. . . one person may get an enthusiastic CM, and get lots of goodies
. . . one person may get a lazy CM and get nothing

On our last trip I noted my birthday on every reservation....I did it online.

It was fun as at 2 places I got a cupcake, signed cards at some, candles on my ordered desserts at some & happy birthday written on the dessert plate. Also, we had some awesome tables in restaurants this time.

The most special was at San Angel Inn...they brought me a dessert with a candle & they sang happy birthday to me & we had an awesome table & awesome service here.

There's no guarantee that you'll get anything. My husband & I spent our honeymoon at Disney and I put it on all of our dining reservations and didn't get anything special at all. BUT we had an awesome time anyway! :thumbsup2

You can't "order" anything for free when you register for a celebration. Whether or not you get something (cupcake or anything else) is entirely up to the cast members when you get there.

If you want to guarantee a cake, you do need to order or purchase one.

I agree with PP. There is no guarantee. If you want a guarantee, order a special cake and pay for it.
We go each year at the same time in October. I always not my son's birthday. We have never gotten anything - for years.
