Wheelchair Question

I am going to be renting either a manual or electric wheelchair through DL. I know they do not allow ECVs when park hopping, but what about the manual wheelchairs? And if they do not allow either wheelchairs when park hopping, what are your experiences on availability when you go to and from the parks. Do people usually crutch their way between the parks? Is there a phone number I can call to check ahead of time if there is availability? How early must I arrive to ensure I even get a wheelchair? Thanks in advance!!!

Are you sure they don't allow you to hop with the rented ECV? I thought the only limit was that you can't take it into DTD?

Have you considered renting from an offsite place like Deckert's?

I've thought about deckert's, but figure rates are $40 for ECV per day. I'd rather eliminate the hassle and just rent at DL for $45. But renting through DL might be more of a hassle....

You can take your ECVs between parks, I've seen people do it. You just can't take them past security, but you don't go thru security to park hop.

I have never been able to take a ECV thru the gates to the other park, no way no how. I was given a ticket and told that I can just give the ticket to the other park ( at rental) and he would allow me to take a evc from there., but ..... if your lucky there is one there. no way was I ever able to take a scooter ( evc) from disneyland to DCA

Also Dekert is cheap and no hassles. cost wise 175.00 for a week, disneyland will cost you way more. they drop it off at the front desk, and pick it up at the front desk. how hard can that be?

How long are you going for? I was quoted as 175.00 for 7 days, thats far from 40.00 a day. also If you want to go from park to park, or down town disney you will need to walk or get a scooter off site. and really its no hassle, very easy to do, I know I do it every time I go

Well I know I've seen people do it. And yes, it was a DL/DCA ECV and not one from an outside company. The CM stamping hands just opened the stroller gate and out they rolled. They went thru the same gate we did, but since we have APs we didn't need hand stamps so we didn't wait, but yes, the CM did these people take their ECVs, maybe the CM didn't know they weren't supposed to do that. But I know what I saw.

Oh I believe you too! I'm thinking it was someone who didn't know or maybe it is a new thing. I don't know, it was on our trip just a few weeks ago. Big group of people all together, 2 ladies on ECVs but they were Disney ECVs.

Not totally sure if it's Deckert's, but I know that one of them delivers the ECV to your hotel and picks it up there too at the end of your stay. Seemed really easy, and that way you have it for the starts and ends of your days.

How long ago were you there? I know that their stroller policy changed between '05 and '07...my stroller rental ticket in '05 states that you can't leave a park with it, but by '07 that had changed.

Seems like there is confusion about whether u can park hop with the ECV/wheelchair. Anyone have a number I can contact them at???

I had a DLR ECV on November 6 last year and they did let me park hop then.

Not totally sure if it's Deckert's, but I know that one of them delivers the ECV to your hotel and picks it up there too at the end of your stay. Seemed really easy, and that way you have it for the starts and ends of your days.

Deckert's does it, but there was at least one other company mentioned who does it. I just can't remember the name right now.

Deckert's was like $ 5 cheaper than the DLR price. But 1) you can't reserve the DLR ECVs and 2) I found their ECV a much better quality than the DLR one. We actually had to return the DLR ECV because it broke down some time in the afternoon.

Im thinking Disney decided they were loosing money when others rented out side the park. Im surprised by one being able to go from park to park with there scooters, but not really since Disney hates to loose money I also had 2 Disneyland scooters give out on me, and once there were none left for it to be replaced with. that's what convinced me to rent out side the park. I also love the fact I get my scooter delivered to me at the motel ( no I did not have to be there on arrival day when it came) and the day I go I just give it back.
Also you get better discounts the longer you have the scooter from dekerts, if Im paying 175.00 for 7 days thru Dekerts, . I will take that any day!! 45x7 = 315.00 ( what I would be charged thru Disney for the same 7 days )

Your best bet is to ask Deckert's where exactly they can deliver. We've always parked in the Pinocchio lot, but that really depends on crowds and when you arrive.

It may be best to meet them in the short term parking lot at DTD, but that's just a spontaneous idea I had.

I don't think you can go on the trams with an ECV. I've hopped on there with crutches on our way back to the hotel and a wheelchair user was in the disabled compartment too. There was barely enough room to strap the wheelchair in. I don't think an ECV would fit.

You CAN take an ECV on the trams, the front cars and the rear cars have room, but you can only put 1 ECV per car so 2 per tram. You can also take them on the monorail.

I park hopped with my rented ECV in November of 2007. Just drove it from one park to the other. I couldn't go to Downtown Disney with it though.
