August heat always adds another notch to the cranky meter but I was standing in line for an attraction last week when I saw grandma being wheeled up to the ride. No biggie right, but behind her I can only describe it as a small family reunion. I counted 17 people including grandma. A bit excessive in my personal opinion. And I also agree with what others have said. The temperature has been raised by a few degrees at queue lines.

That's interesting. When we took my 80-year-old grandmother, she used a wheelchair but the card she was given (back when they had GAC) was only good for up to 7 people plus the holder.

Depending on the ride if it had a wheelchair return line then I could see them letting the whole group return because they all "waited". Doesn't mean they didn't abuse it though. There are only a few rides that have wheelchair returns now so I try not to let it bother me too much. What ride was this at?

Not anymore it seems. Could have been a generous CM though.

DAS returns are still issued for up to 6 usually. That is the official policy. Wheelchair users do not usually qualify for DAS unless there is another condition. It is possible more than one person in the party had a DAS as well and they just all entered at the same time or the CM was nice and issued the wheelchair return ticket for the entire party.

Very possible. I'm sure it was the exception and not the rule. I just know many people had the "are you kidding me" look on their face.

I think PP is right. There was another member of the party with a DAS card. I am in a wheelchair but that is not why I get one. That doesn't qualify you for one as you can wait in line in the chair or get a return time depending on the structure of the ride line.

I get mine for other reasons. A lot of disabilities are invisible to the eye.

I wish the would allow for the number of guests, staying on your reservation. We usually book a 2 BR (9 guests), but would love to book a grand villa (12 guests). Stinks for folks with large families.

Whether or not they do this is up to the discretion of the CM, but I have known several instances in which the number has been extended, primarily for those with a large immediate family

If it was Pooh then the family might have had DAS passes on their Magicbands or even Fastpass+ and the wheelchair user was not the reason they were taken in through that entrance and thus people were wrongfully judging.

I'm confused on what "mainstream queue" means but Pooh is listed as mainstream so not sure what that means.

I hope so

I believe, "mainstream" means everyone goes through the regular que, not a side entrance.

Yeah, but it's a lot of money to put on a crap shoot.

That's what I thought so it wouldn't mean much if grandma was in a wheelchair there had to be some other accommodation being offered. Pooh has wheelchair cars don't they so maybe they were asked to stand to the side while the wheelchair car came through.

I also wish they would tie the card to the traveling party size. We usually travel to WDW with my brother who is in a wheelchair, and is exceedingly mobility impaired. My DH and other DB need to be near him so they can lift him onto rides like HM and PoC since he cannot stay in his wheelchair. But then he wants to sit with me or our Mom in particular. We travel together but we make a party of 8. Sometimes we'll be let through since we are obviously all together, but sometimes not. It can make it a little difficult at times, but we just try and go with the flow!

There are very few wheelchair lines. And a few of the attractions that have them, cause a longer wait than a normal line. As for 17 people being with them, usually they limit the number, but I don't know how many.

There are very few attractions with a "side" entrances that are not the FP+ lines. I think currently, the attractions at MK are BTMRR, Railroad, Riverboat, iasw, PP, Carrousel, Dumbo, Tea Party, JC, and Space. They send everyone through the regular line or they have to have FP+ to go through the FP+ line on the other attractions. (DAS goes through the FP+ line if there is one.)

So, for a group of 17, if it was a FP+ line, it is possible they all had a FP. If they did not have FP, it is possible that multiple individuals had a DAS and they timed their returns to the same time. I know that my sister and one cousin both should qualify for a DAS, so it would be possible that we could sometime have a group of 12 if we did a large family trip. (Not that I see us doing a group that big where all individuals would want to ride the same attractions.)

And the entire party was being allowed early access to this attraction? That's my question. If a person in a wheelchair was just in a queue and had 17 family members behind them, so what?

Probably all 17 boarded the bus early and filled up most of the seats. Seems like people are always gaming the system.

When Southwest Airlines had the cattle call boarding it was an experience watching people trying to beat the system. Many of their flights were called "miracle flights". People would board early using a wheelchair and run off the plane when it landed.
