Mom walks with a cane to the park, gets a chair in the park and we push her back to the bus queue-thru the general line and she load on with the rest of the queue. This last trip she struggled with the older higher step busses and got to ride up once with a gent in a wheelchair. How PC would it be for her to go up on the lift with her cane when we visit this summer??? I mean she will be in the chair whilst we wait for the bus(staying at Pop)then get out and go up on on the lift w/her cane, is that okay?? I mean it feels like we are taking "cuts" also does my DD13 and I go thru the queue and meet her at the hotel later or are we allowed to go with her when she gets on?? We have never done this in any of our trips but with the heat of the late summer I am concerned we will need to utilize this option for her if it is allowed. TYIA for any advice you can offer. :)

Not sure whether it is unsafe for an infirm person to be standing on the lift (with or without cane or crutches) while the lift is moving.

An interesting idea, not sure if the front bus steps are wide enough, is to have a half height half width full depth portable step that is moved from one bus step to the next so someone having difficulty climbing can take a regular bus step with one foot and the portable step with the other foot.

If you are using a resort wheelchair, could she ride that up into the bus (no Dodgem-like upright pole attached that won't go through the bus door) then the driver leave the wheelchair behind when he folds up the lift?

My DD uses a wheelchair and we all just line up together at the entrance for handicapped accesability. After I ride up with her the driver allows my other DD and DH to board. That is how I have seen other families do it as well. I don't blame you, in the summer it is awfully hot and there is no need in making her more uncomfortable than she has to be!

I would also be concerned about safety with her riding the lift while standing. There can be sudden jolts and the driver is liable if she falls- I'm surprised she was allowed to do this in the past. Some of the busses have ramps though and she should be able to walk up the ramp with her cane. There are reports that there are no longer "accessibility lines", just FYI, at the parks.---Kathy

Don't worry or feel guilty that you are cutting in line. I just came back from a trip and found after one day in the parks that there was no way I would be walking the whole trip. So I borrowed a wheelchair from the resort and it made the trip so much more enjoyable. I was with a party of 6 and they stayed in line with me so that we could stay together. I found that more often then not that the people in the regular line ahead of us would get on the same bus we were on or a second bus would pull up and it would be gone before the bus we were on. There is always another bus on it's way so no guilt! Just enjoy the trip - Disney is awesome!
