If you could give just one tip about visiting WDW/ Orlando, what would it be?

It could be about what 'essential items' you always take, or an attraction that must not be missed, or things to remember or whatever.

Don't try to everything in one trip. There is too much to do in one trip and its a good excuse for going back ......

... make sure you get to the parks early in the day.

Getting to the parks early makes sure you get to enjoy the rides and attractions with the shortest queues, and get to miss the worst of the heat and humidity if visiting in the summer.

Rob

When visiting any Theme Park in the summer months arrive early, leave at lunchtime and return in the evening.

Spending a full day at any park can be difficult in the heat, particularly if you have children.

Don't go during school holidays...why wait up to 2 hours for a ride when you can generally walk on at other times?

...buy annual passes!

Many people on this board visit Orlando more than once (even if we started out thinking it would be a one-off, trip of a lifetime!) so why not buy annual passes to Disney and Universal. We get two holidays covered by one annual pass (holidays are spaced 11.5 months apart), then take a couple of years doing other destinations before returning to Orlando. Disney's Premium Annual Pass (giving you unlimited access to everything at WDW) costs less than two 5-day Hopper Plus passports, and come with a range of discounts including the potential for heavily discounted rates at on-site hotels.

This tip has saved us thousands of dollars in the four visits we've had to WDW. For our last visit we saved over $800 on the cost of our on-site accommodation by using our annual passes to get AP Discounted rates.

... don't pay rip-off prices for car insurance.

Many package deals and fly-drive tickets come with so-called "free car hire". Free that is until you have to pay £25 a day for the essential car insurance. There are cheaper ways of doing this. My 'Ultimate Tip' is to buy American Express Premium travel insurance which includes cover for hiring cars in North America. Although the policy is quite expensive, you can save loads of money by not having to take out the rip-off insurance offered by the tour operator or rental agency.

When at MGM, always book a table for dinner which then will give you priority seating fo Fantasmic (no queuing for hours and best seats guaranteed.:D :smooth:

Having experienced Fantasmic for the first time in 1997 in California and being totally overwhelmed by it, it remains our must see.
For anyone who may be on a first time "what to do?" DON'T MISS THIS!!!! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Can't wait to see the victorious Mickey on top of the Fantasmic mountain one more time. A month to go.

PLAN, PLAN and PLAN some more!!
I can't emphasise enough the need to plan your visit - it makes it so much easier as you know what you're doing when and don't miss the things you really want to do and you can take it easier round the parks instead of tearing round like a mad thing!!

... buy Simon Veness' excellent Brit's Guide to Orlando guidebook.

It will provide you with all you'll need to know, and then some, about holidaying in Orlando. Helps you plan, decide what to see, where to stay, what to miss, etc, etc. It's invaluable for getting the best out of your holiday, especially for the first-timer.

... make sure you compare package prices with DIY holidays.

It is often possible to get cheaper holidays, or more flexible arrangements to suit your needs, by booking flights, accommodation, tickets, etc seperately rather than booking a packaged holiday with one of the travel operators. In our experience this is particularly true during peak season (school holidays). Booking a DIY holiday to Orlando is very easy, so the least you should do is compare prices to see which way is cheaper. For that extra little bit of research you may save hundreds of dollars on the cost of your holiday.

Rob

PS: I know this thread was which ONE tip is your ultimate, but these five tips (I promise no more!) have saved me more money, time and effort than I can remember in my visits to Orlando, so I thought it worth listing them all.

Thanks Rob!!!

Have just got a quote from Amex for Premium Plus Travel Insurance for the family inc cover for car at £284.95 - we are going for three weeks this is going to save us a lot of money!!!
