Glad to be DVC!

Looked at GC for a July 20 - 22 stay, rack rate for a standard view room was $670 and that was with a 20% AP discount. Obviously MUCH too late to book in the GCV but will look earlier next time.

goto Disney's website (disneyworld.com) and select the Villa 2br unit for your dates and view. Make sure not to include passes or DP.

For our current trip, setup a std studio @ kidani is showing as $550 plus tax per night. Who pays that!?

I might have to use up some more points and upgrade to a 1br (if available) just to drive home to my non-believer family members that one CAN afford to stay @ a great Disney resort in an awesome room over the holidays.... providing they're DVC

And this is 1, 12 day trip!!!!! For just the rooms!!!!

I really doubt that many people actually pay these prices but it makes me feel pretty darn good about owning DVC!!!

Does anyone know about how they apply taxes on those 15 to 40% discounts when they do offer them? I mean do they charge you tax on the full amount of what it would have cost or on the discounted price? Just wondering.

Do you think the rack rates are artificially inflated to justify the costs of DVC?

I think all WDW room rates are inflated so that they have room for discounts.

The rack rate according to Mousesavers.com for the AKV (KV), 2 bedroom savannah view is $1090 per night, including tax. I know, because I just found it for my post directly above yours.

Sorry - didn't see your post. Even with that figure the room is $10,900!!!

Being honest with ourselves, is there anyone here who feels an AKV 2br non-concierge room is really worth over $1000/night?

Perhaps, if it were concierge, and IF it came with a private butler, chauffeur and Rolls Royce combo, then maybe.

I would never pay over $1,000 a night for any room. Nor do I feel that any room at WDW is worth that a night. The prices are inflated to offer discounts but also because they are what the market will support. Look what they charge for rooms at any of the deluxe resorts and those sell out just as well as the values!

Rack rate for the OKW 2BR we stayed in for seven nights was around $7000 including tax! This was during peak Christmas season for cash rates, but most of the nights were not peak season for DVC. Even with a nice discount it would have cost us around $4000 OOP.

We would never be paying rack rate, as we wouldn't be staying in 1 bedrooms, nor stay in deluxes, as we go for approx. 2 weeks each summer. But, I will put my totals in for this thread:

12 nights @ AKV = $6615.00 (1 bedroom) during summer. Dues are $1700 (but didn't use all points for ressie, so banked a few, so a little less).

There is actually a summer sale, and we could get Caribbean Beach for $2152.00, 1 bedrooms at SSR/OKW $3189.00 or AKV $4961.00.

It really does make you appreciate DVC!!!

before I bought DVC and have never regretted becoming an owner. The accomodations are so far above even the Deluxe rooms at any of the on property resorts so that there is no comparision. We are dedicated OKW and VWL lovers so we get the most spacious accomodations, great views and a wonderful feeling of being part of an exclusive club.

The second great thing is that even though due may go up a little each year, in twenty years the room rates at all the regular hotels will have doubled or more and we will still be enjoying our DVC!
