I like non-chardonnay white wines. I would love to hear your opinions, either by the glass, bottle or retail (ie. Germany, Italy or France in Epcot or at Animal Kindom Lodge).

TIA,
Alice

Did you try this at one of the restaurants?

I know it is offered at several of the restaurants, and on the cruise. Don't ask which restaurants, I don't remember.

Sounds interesting, I'm going to look for it around here too. Thanks.

I second the recommendation on the Connundrum! I have had it at the Coral Reef, Le Cellier, and California Grill. It has become one of my all time favorite wines. Depending on the part of the country you live in, you might even find it at a liquor store, but in limited quantities. It comes from a small vinyard which produces only a small number of bottles each year. WDW purchases at least half of each vintage. The rest is distributed selectively.

I like Le Rime in Italy although it is Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. I bought a bottle to bring home with me

I love Hogue Late Harvest Riesling first tried it at Artist Point.

We had a wonderful sparkling white wine at Italy in Epcot a few years ago. Made by Sarraco it's Moscato D'Asti. They didn't have it the next year we were there, but they might have it again. It's very hard to find in the U.S. there's one or 2 places on the internet that have it. I have even ordered a case of it!

My favorite is Fess Parker (yes, that's Davy Crocket) Riesling.I first tried it at Yachtsman Steakhouse.

We also love Fess Parker, but the chardonnay. We will have to give the Riesling a try as I enjoy a nice Reisling. Connundrum is lovely and so is the ice wine at Le Cellier if you prefer something a little sweeter!

Not to dis (ha!) Conundrum, but if you like non-chardonnay whites, Conundrum really might not be your style.

Conundrum is a very ripe (even sweet at times) white with a blend of 9 different grape varietals. One of the largest percentages is the chardonnay grape, and this wine is definitely created in the California style.

I would recommend travelling to Jiko and trying some of their South African sauv. blancs, even if just at the bar. The 'new world' climate of South Africa really brings out some interesting flavor profiles in the wine (grapefruit, etc.) Jiko also gets some of the more exciting and boutique wines from S.A.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to print this out to take with me in June, it will be like a treasure hunt for me.

Thanks Mary - I actually don't mind the chardonnay grape, I have had chardonnay's that I like, it's that they seem to be either aged longer or just seem to absorb more of the oak flavor which I really, really dislike. We love AKL but we seem to have the opposite experience there than most posters, we like the lounge, but were not crazy about Jiko's. You are right, I should plan to get over there, we'll have to give Jiko's another try. Thanks again.

It is AMAZING what a winemaker can do to those little grapes! I like French Chardonnay, but I don't like buttery, oaky classic California chardonnay.

I get to sample a lot of wine in my work and I'm always fascinated by the way two different winemakers can create totally different wines from the same grape (sometimes from the same vineyard!)

Have a blast trying to find your perfect WDW wine :rolleyes1

Actually, Conundrum is made by Caymus Vineyards in rather large quantities (several thousand cases each year) and is widely available in wine stores across the country.

From the AKL store we love the 2004 Waterside Sauvignon blanc produced by Graham Beck. We have a five star rating system with 1*- never again and 5*-to die for. This is a 5* wine for us. We have tried other wine from Graham Beck and they have all rated 4* and 5*(they were all reds). Good luck with your quest. :)
