And we make ours even more different by using cream cheese and cool whip with fruit cocktail, crushed pineapple and then the mini marshmallows. Calls for nuts on top (but I leave them off...not a fan).
I also make an acini de pepe fruit salad (I think it's called frog eye salad). It has acini de pepe pasta with mandarin oranges, pineapple, cool whip, mini marshmallows blended with thickened fruit juices strained from the fruit an heated with sugar, eggs and flour (this and the pasta has to be mixed and refrigerated overnight and then add fruit, cool whip and marshmallows the next day). I LOVE this and cannot wait to have it tomorrow (and for several days after).
There was a fruit salad the my MIL used to make...it is pink. It has cherry pie filling, pineapple, sweetened condensed milk and cool whip.
