What's your child's bedtime ? w/ age please

My DD9 has always needed a lot of sleep. Our ideal schedule is start bedtime routine at 7:30p, in bed by 8pm, lights out/sleeping by 8:30pm. (Except on basketball nights when she's not home until after 8pm.) She sleeps until 7-7:30am. Occasionally I have to wake her, but we're all happier if I don't!

She came home complaining last week that she has the earliest bedtime in all of the third grade! Not really my concern and I doubt that all of these 8 and 9year olds are staying up until 10pm and later as DD has been told. (Actually, I know for a fact that at least a few don't.)

DD just needs a lot of sleep. She's tall and she's smart and I told her that sleeping time is when you grow and your brain gets smarter. As a result, she needs a lot of sleep.

Fun thread!

Both of my princesses go to bed at 8 pm..sometimes dd2 falls asleep before then and we just carry her to the bed and she sleeps all night. (they share a room). DD6 gets up at 6:15 am to get ready for school (has to be there at 7:30am). We don't let them stay up later on weekends or holiday breaks because they get out of schedule and it is hard to get them back in. Summer break is the same except for vacation especially Disney because we are on a constant GO GO GO, and we may not get back in time for the normal scheduled bed time.

DS 7 and DS 3 go to bed between 9:30pm and 10:00pm. I guess we have a little night owl in us too, but only a little because by 10:00pm, we're ALL ready for bed.

They get up in the morning a little after 8:00am and DS7 catches his bus to school around 9:00am.

Tell her my dd has the earliest bedtime in 3rd grade too. She goes in at 7:00 and lights off at 8:00 after 1/2 hour of reading and 1/2 hour of a dvd. I heard it too - all the other kids go to be 9 or 10:00. Oh well, we don't!

My DS4 has an 8 pm bedtime and has had that most of his life. His daddy doesnt get home till 6 so even when he was 1 and 2 yrs it was 8 pm because if not there were a few days a week daddy wouldnt see him because DH works shift work and that made both baby and daddy unhappy. We will prob stick with that time for a cpl more yrs then bump it up to 8:30.
DS17 on school nights has to have phone and computer off by 10 lights off by 11 pm which was really kinda late, but worked ok. Weekends he would stay up all night when with his mom, but i still knock on his door on weekends he was with us and tell him to shut it down about 1 am if I hear him. His curfew is midnight, but he will be 18 and done with school in a few weeks, so we may rethink it to 1 am but not sure.

My children are younger, soon to be 4 and 5. They go to bed at 7:30, which usually means they are asleep by 8:00. They get up early and do not take naps.

Same here...they typically get up between 6-7.

It depends upon what time kids have to be up in the morning.
My youngest goes to a school with a 9:15am start time, pretty late, so he can stay up late.

DD12 -- 10:30pm (leaves the house at 7:30am)
DS9 ---9:30pm (leaves the house at 8:45am)

DS10 --9pm
DD9 --9pm
DS2 --8pm + 2-3hr nap

Everyone's up around 7am.

All of our girls (ages 4,6,9) go to bed at 8pm. The 6yo is allowed to read in bed until 8:30 and the 9yo is allowed to read until 9pm.

DS8 - 8:30 (on school nights)
DD4 - 7:30

To the OP. I am sure you know what is best for your daughter. :thumbsup2

As an elementary school teacher, I wonder how many parents of those kids who stay up late realize they can hardly lift their heads off their desks in the morning? :confused3

DS5 - 6:30
DS4 - 6:30
DD3 - 6:30

Asleep by 7..no naps and up at 6am no matter what their bedtime is!! This is a great thread...I have been thinking about changing bedtime, but will just make it 7pm when time changes; they are crabby/draggin' in the afternoons sometimes.

DD6 9PM HAHA if she actually falls asleep then, but at least I am not chasing her around the house. She goes to 1/2 day kindergarten and still naps in the afternoon. She gets up at 7:50 for school but sleeps later when no school. We let her stay up later on weekends.

Now my DS is a whole other story...he is 6 weeks old and I dont care when he goes to sleep as long as he doesnt wake up for a few hours!
I AM EXHAUSTED!!!!!!!!!

DD, who will be 4 next month goes to bed at 7pm...usually asleep by 730pm. She gets up around 830am. She goes to preschool 2 days a week and I have to wake her up at 8am. No naps here.

My 4 year old goes to bed around 8:30. My 6.5 year old goes to bed around 9:00 (although she sometimes doesn't fall asleep until 10:00).

The 4 year old wakes up around 8:00-8:30. The 6.5 year old wakes up around 9:00.

Well, my DS is 7 and is in school :teacher: , if I can get him in bed and lights out by 10:00, it's a miracle, we shoot for 9:00, but it never happens.;)
Our DD is 4 princess: and she is another story, she's on her own schedule (in life and bedtime), sometimes she still be up at midnight...She goes to work with me and her dad (not until 10:00 am) so she gets to sleep in. Everyone in our family is a "Night Owl".

Thanks asfarrell...

I was starting to feel like a bad parent. My family are night owls too.

I don't have to be at work until 11am, and drop my DS(3) off at the babysitters at 10am, so we are all normally up til about 11 or midnight.

When DS(3) doesn't feel well, then he is normally out by 9 pm at the latest.

He stopped taking naps at 20 months.......

DD12 and DS11 both have to be in their beds by 9:30pm, and lights out at 10pm. They wake up on school days by 7am. This works for them. DS11 usually puts himslef to bed at 9:30. He gets tired, and that's it, he's done. My DD would stay up all night if we let her.

My DS7 900, I usually end up chasing back to bed til 930. My DD4 stays at home with me or my mom so she just watches tv til ahe is out. I am usually asleep before her. LOL

Ds 13, ds 12, dd 11, and ds 9 all go to bed on school nights 8:30 - 9:00. On non-school nights they stay up later if they want but most of the time they head on up to bed by 9:00 unless we are doing something special like playing a board game or watching a movie. Bedtime has never been a problem for us. I guess my kids just like their sleep!
