What's your child's bedtime ? w/ age please

DS (13) between 9:00 - 9:30 p.m
DD (15) depending on homework, between 10:00- 10:30 p.m.

On weekends and school vacations they do stay up a bit later, but not by a lot.

DS8 and DD4 both by 8pm. We block out 5-7:30 (when DH gets home) for family only time... dinner, playing outside/games indoors if bad weather, homework and time to get ready for bed. We read and/or play games quietly for about 30 minutes together before sleep at 8. No TV. No phone calls (unless emergency). They go right to sleep at 8-8:15pm and are up with smiles by 6:30 am. DDD4 (almost 5) occasionally takes a nap when crabby.

We like our system. I learned before having kids that dimmed lights and quiet activities before sleep helps kids relax. DH and I both worked with troubled kids of all ages in a group home and this works wonders... with all types of kids!

I am a SAHM and so the 8pm bedtime is essential for me to get some 'me time'. And 'DH time'. And 'laundry catching up' time!
Summertime and weekends sometimes gets a bit later-- also for the rare special event that lasts later.

Both my kids go as soon as the bedtime ritual is done which we generally start at 8:30. My DS 10 uses that time to then unwind and do his required nightly reading homework. It works great for him as he can often have a tough time getting to sleep and it allows him to really relax and fall asleep. My DD 6 usually ends up playing in her room for a half hour or so before she settles down to sleep. They could both probably go later but for my own selfish reasons and sanity I put them in at 8:30 during the week. This way I can unwind and relax and watch a little tv uninterrupted and get to bed myself at a reasonable time.

DS 5 goes to bed at 8:30 during the school year, closer to 10 during summertime. We are in Michigan during the summer, and it stays light until about 10 p.m., throwing everything off.

His favorite show is American Idol, so I'm letting to stay up until 9 those nights, LOL.

He gets up around 7 or 7:30 a.m.

DS6 8:00
DD8 8:30

Both have to get up at 7am so they can be ready for the school bus.

My DD's are 2 1/2 and 14 months, they both share a room and they go in at 9:30 pm and talk until around 1030,lol and both wake up at 7am.

We are trying to get them in a little earlier but I dont want to just put them in their room to cry if they are still that awake, know what I mean. I sure hope their bedtime gets a little earlier as they get older, lol

I used to have that issue, then I staggered their bedtime by about 20 minutes and the youngest would be sleeping by the time the oldest went to bed.

Well, my DS is 7 and is in school :teacher: , if I can get him in bed and lights out by 10:00, it's a miracle, we shoot for 9:00, but it never happens.;)
Our DD is 4 princess: and she is another story, she's on her own schedule (in life and bedtime), sometimes she still be up at midnight...She goes to work with me and her dad (not until 10:00 am) so she gets to sleep in. Everyone in our family is a "Night Owl".

During the school week/year our dd 12 goes to bed at 9:00 and our 17 yo ds goes to bed at 10:00...I guess he's old enough to stay up later, but he's never asked to! On vacations or weekends if there are no early morning plans we don't have a set bedtime for the kids, but even then dd can't seem to make it past 11:00pm ever!

DD 12 is ready and in bed about 9-9:15 and reads for 1/2 hour sometimes a little more. She has to catch the bus at 6:30 so she is up at 5:50. Most of her friends stay up much later and some call as late as 9:30. Or should I say they used to call as late as 9:30!

DD 10 needs her sleep, she goes in about 8:30 and reads for 1/2 hour sometimes less. She dosen't have to get up until 7:15 and although she gets right up she doesn't like too.

They both stay up a little later and sleep in a little on weekends.

OP - my dd's are skaters as well and I am so glad we don't have to do the earlybird sessions.

DD 1.5 - bedtime routine starts @ 6:30. Asleep by 7. She also takes a midday 2 hour nap.
DD 5 - bedtime routine starts @ 7:15. Asleep by 8.

Both arise @ 7am.

DH and I are considering wheather our 9 pm bedtime is to early for our DD 10.

She skates at 7 am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings so we always TRY to get her down by 9 pm every night. She has no problem getting up in the morning when she stays up past her bedtime and other people tell me their kids stay up later than she does.

Our oldest dd, 11 is a figure skater too. She skates 3-5 times a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays are 6:30 am practices. She is in her bed at 8:30, teeth brushed, pj's on, etc. and she is allowed to read until lights out at 9.
She doesn't require alot of sleep and if I let her stay up until 10 she would still skate happily at 6:30 am; but.......as a parent of an athlete I think it is very important to ensure she is a healthy one.

MANY of her friends stay up until 10, her best friend "doesn't have a bedtime"??? and that is great for them (the kids and their parents tell me too), as parents we all have the right to make the decisions we feel are best for our child and their circumstances. My daughter wants to skate 1 1/2 hours before school and in order to do that we demand good grades (or else she would lose the skating priviledge). I think that a 8:30/9:00 bedtime is very reasonable at that age.

Her cousin, a competitive swimmer is 15 and has always had an 8:30 bedtime. Sure her friends make fun, but she is a great kid, very successful in her sport, a straight A student and not hanging at the mall at 8pm - she's showering for bed! She has a great social life but it's at the pool, supervised and pg-rated! :) I hope my kids turn out just like her! ;)

DD 10 is typically in bed a little before 8, reads for about 1/2 hour, and then I read to her for a bit. Lights are usually out by 8:45 (she gets up at 6:45 on school days). The timing is a little later on weekends. Right now, though, she's in rehearsals for a play, so she's not getting to sleep until around 9:30. This just started this week, so we'll see how well she adjusts. If she really has trouble, then we won't let her do another play during the school year, unless rehearsals are after school and not in the evenings!

DD1 (9)
DD2 (8)
DS (6)

All are in bed at 7:00. Girls read for 1/2 hour then watch 1/2 hour tv. Lights and everything off by 8:00.

Ds watches 1/2 hour of tv (Disney channel) - lights off at 7:30.

Our school starts early so they have to be up by 6:15 every morning.

DD 15 when ever usually by 11-1130 up at 7am
DS 14 about 11pm up at 7am
DS 13 about 11pm up at 7am
DD 9 between 9-930pm up at 6:45. I'd like her by 9pm but 70% of time it never happens.

Our oldest dd, 11 is a figure skater too.

snip;)

OT so forgive me Luckey but

I wonder how many of us have kids who are figure skaters? It might be nice to chat with some figure skating moms from other areas.

If anyone is interested I may start a post on the CB and see if I get any interest.

My 3 guys 4,7 and 9 are in bed by 8pm, they are up btwn 5 and 6am:headache:
We start the process at @7:30. The older 2 have independent reading then we read to all of them for about 15-25 minutes.

Right now it's Peter Pan pirate:

I have 3 kids, they are dd-almost 16(in may), ds-13 1/2, dd-11 1/2...now, my younger two like they sleep..my oldest daughter needs far less...she is in bed by 11, although i think she watches a few minutes of tv..i havent had to wake her in a year, she sets her alarm and is up between 6 and 6:30, but she makes up for her sleep on the weekends:thumbsup2 , my son is in bed between 10 and 10:30, but this is just recently, it used to be between 9:30 and 10:00, and my youngest daughter goes between 9 and 9:30..the odd school night i will let her stay up til 10 if she wants to watch a show with us, but she usually falls asleep...because my younger two will always go to bed when tired, they have later bedtimes....they choose quite often to just go to bed...weekends they can stay up as late as they want, but they are always asleep by 11:00:lmao: ...of course not my oldest daughter....
