What's wrong with getting married young?

No. I don't think so, but then I also don't think that getting married young means you are missing out on life either.

There is a difference between discussion and trying to justify your choice to others who made different ones. It starts to sound eventually like you are trying to convince yourself as opposed to the other person.

Is anything "wrong" with it? Not necessarily, but I think your options are far more limited if you don't get through with schooling first.

I got married at 29. I would have liked to have gotten married at 25 or so, but it just didn't happen, and now, I am glad it didn't! I had my college and grad school finished, was firmly established in a career, and was far more ready to be a wife and mother.

My father drilled into me to finish college first and I am so glad he did. He told me over and over how we just don't know what will happen, death, disability, etc....and I may have to be the sold bread winner for whatever reason.

I was 23 and I think I did pretty well in the education and traveling department. I did miss out on a lot of drinking and vomiting, as well as gratuitous sexual encounters with absolute strangers. My children could do worse.

I was 22 and DH was 21. We got married right before the start of DH's senior year in college and my junior year.

I managed to become a college graduate as a wife AND mother, and as our financial picture has gotten better, we've traveled a lot.

Though some seem to think so, your life isn't over when you become a wife and/or mother.

I have never, for one second, felt like I missed anything due to being married at the age I did.

We will be celebrating our 15th anniversary this summer.

eh, people tend to feel passionately about their choices and their soapboxes, as we have seen on both sides of this issue.

Seriously, I was no wild child but I'm still glad that I waited to have our son. That would have changed a lot of my life and I like how most of it went.

To each their own. The next time I see DISers talking about how 20 year olds aren't mature and still have developing brains and so on, I'm going to bring up this thread. I'm all for leaving the nest when a person feels ready.
