What's with this Facebook / Twitter banner ad?

I don't like it either. Fine at the top or the bottom, but definitely not the middle. Breaks apart the flow of the board too much.

I just went ahead and ad-blocked all four images, so it's gone now. If you have an ad-blocker installed, you should be able to do the same.

Hmm, I figured the WebMasters had to move the ads there to appease the sponsers who paid for the advertizing. It's more obvious there than at the bottom of the pages.

What's really annoying is that you have the option of subscribing to facebook or twitter at the bottom of the page, why shove them in our faces in the middle?

I have a name for people I don't like who Twitter or who talk about twittering.

I'm not even going to spell it because I got in trouble last month for creatively vulgar spelling, but let's just say it's one syllable and rhymes with swat....

Just came back on the DIS about 5 minutes ago and saw this.. Was going to start a thread about it and saw yours..

You're right - every page.. It's very annoying and completely unnecessary..

Hopefully they will remove it ASAP!!

I just sent a polite request to the moderators of this board - notifying them that people don't particularly care for this banner - and asking if the banner could be moved to a more appropriate location..

Not sure if they have any authority over that or not, but in case this thread gets buried on page 5 or so, at least a mod might be made aware of the situation..

I changed my skin to unplugged. Logged out and logged back in and it was back to the default.

hah - don't expect the "middle-of-the-thread" ads to go anywhere. Obviously, not enough DISers became sponsors, so they had to go to other paid sponsors. (If I had paid to be a sponsor, & I still saw that in every thread, I'd be ticked!)

no - I'm very annoyed with its placement too.

It makes the site VERY hard to read. I don't mind it on the top or bottom but after the 1st reply is very annoying. I agree with everyone else, it makes me think there are no more replies. It really hurts readability.

Just want to clarify for the OP of this thread - I did not use the "report this thread" button.. I went to the bottom of the CB where it says "DIS Moderator Team, clicked on that, and it brought me to some odd looking page where I could post the message.. LOL I believe you can read what I said in my message as there are the full messages that other people have sent available for everyone to read.. (Had to post it twice - didn't want to go through the first time - just kept spinning and spinning..)

Isn't it odd that you can read what other people have sent the Mods? Doesn't bother me because this is the only time I have ever used it, but wouldn't you assume it would be "private"??

Anyhow - it's done.. Hopefully they can speak to whoever controls that aspect of the DIS and have the banners removed..
