What's with the Jesus skywriting?

Yup- chaps my rear that many people think that atheists are amoral, just because they don't believe in the puppetmaster in the sky.
This theist does NOT think that.

Wow - didn't realize this thread was still going on.

Jenny - you are special and once again, you're so awesome. I was telling friends about you the other day and what an impact your words had on me from a silly little forum!

Bless you!

Actually (I believe) that all humans were created in God's image and thus have some sense of Good. But, religious and nonreligious people both have skewed ways of viewing that Good.(for good or for bad ;) )

When I had made my post, I was saying ALL of man was seperated from God. I wasn't trying to imply that nonreligious people are amoral. Though I am sure it came out like that. Sorry.

Did anyone e-mail the sky writer? I don't have time to go back and read all of the posts.

I did e-mail him BTW and he did respond.

I like that you swapped beliefs and have a broad knowledge of Judaism. not just quoting passages from the Tanakh (Torah) after your switch.

Wel,i can do that. I have done it..Usually with people who only value a belief if it's biblically based

I guess that's my core problem with religion. I'd rather people use it as a guide, rather than an all-out proven certainty that should affect other people.

religion should be a personal experience, not a call to shape political beliefs.

Well, that's pretty much how I view my beliefs..The tanakh is a guide..It's not literal, and it's not the be all,end all of Jewish beliefs

Would you be willing to share what you wrote and what the response was?

I didn't say that-you did. God created ALL of us, whether we believe or not. I believe as Saxsoon says- He put an understanding of "goodness" in our mind.

Exactly, regardless of religious beliefs or lack there of.

Groucho, when I say good and evil, I am not talking about human standards, because I believe those to be very skewed.

I would hope they would be skewed away from many of those "standards" of the "God of Abraham" of "The Bible"-- an allegedly omnipotent "god" who, many times, can think of nothing better to do than to kill babies and children to get his "jealous" way. Those "standards" have caused much self-righteous carnage throughout history.

Unfortunately this, well, utterly evil "standard" has been used by Abrahamists throughout the centuries to heap violence on those they disliked or who wouldn't kneel to their particular branch of Abrahamism. "Let's slaughter the enemy like they were Jerichoans... for 'God'!"

Hopefully most people on the planet are skewing away from that "standard" now. The fewer gunmen/bombers/suicide bombers "for g-d*/god/allah" ... the better.

Please, no "'god' works in mysterious ways" responses. Killing babies and children is not mysterious, it is evil, and if done by an omnipotent being who allegedly "loves" them and is killing them for the "sins" of their parents (or worse, their greatgreat(15-18 more greats)grandparents), it is nigh infinitely evil.

So if a skywwriter writes "God/Allah is great"...well, let's hope he isn't on a bomb-laden plane on another killing mission for the "god" of "Abraham"....

*not cursing here, of course... perhaps English-speaking "g-d" believing folks who follow the no-write rule should consider "go_" instead, because between g-d and -od and go-, well, two just don't sound right, lol
