Whats with all this hallways talk?

I keep seeing posts about hallways. Inside hallways, outside hallways, long hallways...

We are looking BCV & BWV for our visit in August. Someone mentioned BWV has outside hallways?

Please splain a bit more. My only experience with any of this was when we stayed at AKL a while back and had a 2 bedroom suite at what seemed to be the furthest possible room from the lobby. Was probably no less than a 7 minute walk with 4 kids including all the required 'stuff' and stroller. That became a drag after a while. I guess at Poly and GF we never noticed that it probably took as long to walk in from the outer building because you were enjoying the resort not just talking a hallway. See, now I'm starting!!! Please help me stop!.

I believe BWV has inside hallways... so long indoor walk to your room.... I'll find out this November...

Neither BCV nor BWV have outdoor hallways, although the latter's hallways are themed outdoors-ily. The corridors at BWV are way long, depending on where your room is, the ones at BCV less so. The only WDW DVC resorts with outdoor hallways are SSR and OKW, as their layout is very Florida-condo. The rest are enclosed.

BWV has inside hallways. The problem is there is only 1 set of elevators and that is near the lobby. As you can see in my signature, the building is quite large and if you get a room at the end, it is a longer walk than if you could enter the building halfway and take an elevator up. I personally think it's exagerated. It seems longer because you are in a hallway but it's probably no more than buildings not near the bus stop at OKW or SSR. BCV has several elevators.

Aahh.. OK, when we are there in 15 days we'll have to factor that in. When we stayed at YC last November I think we experienced the same thing. 1 elevator and a long walk to the room. Not the end of the world, but something to look out for.

As someone had mentioned before, the walk is only long if you are farther away from the elevators. We had a very short walk from the elevators at BWV when we stayed. The years that we stayed at BCV and AKL, our walks were very far because the rooms were farther from the elevators.

It seems like the first time you find your room, the walk feels like it takes forever. After that, it doesn't seem so bad.

Personally, it doesn't bother us in the least.

I agree with this. I'm pretty sure the walks we had to our rooms in SSR and the Contemporary (Far back corner - South Wing) were longer than our room at BWV, but didn't seem to be because the walk was outside.

 

[Boardwalker]

First off in your request if you have someone older who can't do stairs or if you need the elevator for your stroller, request a room as near to the elevator as possible. There is only one elevator bay.
But if you are a mobile bunch, there are stairways available at the joints of the building. We find that after the initial trip to find the room, we look at the map on the back of the door and find the closest exit. Going down a few flights of stairs can save you using the hallways. most of the doors have key entry until 9 pm.
Unless you are going specifically to the busstop, you don't need to go through the lobby. Exit on the Boardwalk/ground level to go to the shops, the entertainment, the pool or the boat or walkways to EPCOT or DHS.
The original "Long Hallways" thing was a kind of a fun competition thing bewtween OKW owners and the new Boardwalk owners. There was this one guy, Richyams, the ultimate OKW owner and a true legend on the boards, who used to say that the Boardwalk rooms were so small you could sit on the balcony and open the refrigerator to get a beer without getting up. If you ever get the chance to read some of his posts, you will laugh yourselves silly. Unbelievably, the long hallways is still something that sticks. He must be laughing at us BWV lovers still, from his OKW sized room in heaven.

As mentioned already, the BWV have interior hallways between the lobby area and the rooms. They can be very long hallways if you are far from the elevators (but at least they are air conditioned). All restaurants and stores (except one) are outside on the boardwalk which you cannot get to by interior hallways. You must go outside and downstairs to access any of the amenities, restaurants, shops, exercise room, and pool area.

We're at the Boardwalk in standard-view 2BR # 5069/5071 which is the first SV unit from the elevator, but I took a walk on the 4th floor and it took me 2 minutes flat walking at a brisk pace (not power walking, but how I would normally walk to keep up with my kids) to go from the elevators to the very last unit (#4136). Even at a very leisurely pace, it takes less than 3 minutes to walk the entire hallway.

2-3 minutes can seem like a long time when you are anxious to get to your room, but think about how much walking you do in a typical day at one of the parks and put it in perspective. Plus, being far from the elevator means you are closer to the bus stop, the quiet pool, Community Hall, and the walkway to DHS. So it's not as if you're always walking the entire length of the hallway.

I don't understand the aversion to walking, it's good for us and the hallways are nicely air conditioned. What I don't like about the resort is that the majority of the amenities are basically outside the building, requiring you to leave those air conditioned hallways to get to them. That and the fact that it feels way too crowded for me in that part of the world.

I never really thought about it, but that's one of the things I actually perfer about exterior walks, you can look around at the landscaping and stuff while walking to your room. Interior ones it seems like you are just 'stuck' looking at other doors on both sides of you (granted, air conditioned ones as someone mentioned). Granted I've not stayed in one of the deluxes or others with indoor hallways, so maybe I'm missing something.

BWV has long internal hallways to the far away end rooms. However, it is no longer than from the lobby to the end of either wing at Jambo house at AKL, and half the distance of what will be the longest internal walk of any DVC resort -- from the lobby to the end of the north wing of Kidani at AKL
