Rigsby- Congratulations!!! You have made a great step towards your future good health!
I unfortunately have not. I tried Wellbutrin (which is Zyban, basically) and because of my OCD, bad things happened, one of which involved me being literally afraid to open my door for 2 weeks. So, alas, I am on my own, trying to quit.
But to stay on topic, I think there
should be a separate smoking area near the pools, just as there is in the parks. I also think that smoking in a nonsmoking room is inexcusable. Walking outside and standing off to the side would probably do you some good! People with asthma and some other respiratory issues are not only affected by direct second hand smoke. I have seen an asthmatic child in an ER who had an attack stopped with medication, go into ANOTHER full blown attack because one of his family members went outside, smoked, and came back in with the smell on his clothes! The smoky smell left in the room could have a seriously adverse effect on someone.
I agree with the designated areas and staying away from others who don't smoke for several reasons. One of course is health issues. Another, which is why I think the pool should have an area off to the side, is the danger of burning someone!! The people who wander the parks with a cigarette are idiots. My daughter had her eye burned when she was 4 by some man at the playground who was standing in the middle of the running kids with a cigarette in his hand. I wouldn't wave a lit candle around a bunch of people, why would I do it with a cigarette?
I also think having a designated area cuts down on the mess. Because people are slobs. We smoke at DTD, we go off to the side, never near the outdoor seats at the restaurants. If there is not an immediately available ashtray, DH "field strips" the butts and we carry them to an ashtray. But most people just toss them on the ground. Yuck.
I go out of my way to be respectful of others at WDW and anywhere else. Here in NY, you cannot smoke in restaurants, bars, the malls, anywhere. But when I go outside to smoke, I stand away from the door, so no one has to go through clouds to get in. It is amazing how many other people don't care. And they make nonsmokers think I am an inconsiderate jerk. I am not. I actually only smoke a few a day at WDW, just enough to keep me from going into withdrawal, and to make it easy to not bother other people.
One small comment I have to make regarding something said on here about smokers setting a bad example: I do not drink. My ex is an alcoholic and used to beat me up more often than not. So my 2 older kids are that much more likely to be alcoholics because their dad and his mother are. I think people drinking at the pool set a bad example for my kids. Why can't they have fun at a pool without a drink??? I am not asking WDW to ban drinking at the pools completely. Don't bring setting an example into the equation. My kids ask me why I smoke. I told them I was stupid to start and it was the biggest mistake of my life. They see me struggle to stop. Smoking is not a parenting issue, unless you are giving your 5 yr old a cigarette. That comment really bothered me. I could make a list of 100 things that other people do that sets a bad example for children.
