What's with all the renters having very minimal posts?

So I'm looking into renting some points for friends that will be going in the fall. They will pay for the points but have them transferred into my acct and I'll make the rsvp for them. When looking on the rent/trade board I noticed that most of the people with points to rent have a very low post count. Do "active" disers make up a new acct just to rent points, instead of using their normal screen name? Maybe it's just me but I would feel MUCH better renting from someone that participates in multiple boards than just in the rent/trade board. I guess because I can read other posts by them and kida get a feel for "who" they are. Does that make any sense?

I absolutely agree, the rent and trade board has lots of first time renters or people with low posts. I would be worried too. But, maybe people are just figuring out that this board exists and need to unload some points, that they just let expire when they didn't use them in the past.

Maybe people with high post counts are less likely to rent, they want to use their points themselves! I wouldn't dream of renting my points unless there was a reason I could not go and they could not be banked.

I've noticed a lot of that lately too. Maybe there is a rash of new owners using up SSR points that they don't need because they bought while on their vacation. Who knows?

I feel kind of bad for folks trying to get a rental when that happens. I don't for a minute believe these low posters are trying to rip anybody off, But I do believe they are inexperienced with DVC and how the reality of everything works. lI see a fair number of people trying to get rentals for the next 30-60 days or for October/November (during Food & Wine) at BWV or BCV, or even for the first couple of weeks in December or Christmas. It seems to be the posters with low counts jumping in and saying "I have points to sell" or even "I have low cost points". The more experienced DVCers know that it isn't points you need, but a reservation and there are probably few or none to be had at those times. I hate to see the potential renters get their hopes up and be disappointed.

Yes I had the same feeling..but..I rented 68 pts. ($10.), preferred studio, @ the BWV for Sept, Fri-Tues. from a person on the rent/trade boards I did not know from the DIS.
I asked a few questions and he replied with: he has done this before, is an E-bay seller, check out his e-bay site, needed to cancel his 05 vacation..etc. His requirements were pay half now and the remainder @ the 40 day mark.

Well...I felt good about it..told him I was a DVCer too..(there was NO contract)..so I took the plunge.
No problem...got the confirmation in the mail within 2 weeks..then sent him the remainder of the $$. I had told him that IMHO..he shouldn't "hang", should I default and want to cancel (YEA...RIGHT) on the points. The burden should be mine. Im pleased with the transaction!!

Guess there are horror stories...

I personally wouldn't worry about it I have not been on here very long but I have rented numerous times via other avenues before I ever knew this place was here.
