I had made a 1 night camping reservation for the 4th of July with the intention of just using it to get EMH on the 4th. I got slammed to the ground because we were really not going to camp for the night. Because the calender changed we canceled the reservation. So for fun I am reading the camping section and not only can you get a reservation for the 4th, it seems to be okay to book a site for 2 weeks when you only want it for a few nights! I was using 1 site for 1 night. I don't think what you are telling people to do is any different then what I did. I know you are canceling these extra nights, but before you do that, people can not get a site because you are booking 14 nights, when you really only want 3 days! If you are not on the DIS you do not know these things. So a lot of people will try to get a reservation and can't. At least when I booked my 1 night, I was using it for something. Disney makes people do things sometimes that makes no sense. At some point they will figure this out and not let you do this. I would do this if I had to to get the reservation I want. The difference here, is that I will admit what I am doing . Is this right or wrong? That depends on your opinion. I think people should just not judge other people so harshly. :confused3

I think the whole point is that you were not planning on camping at all......just paying for a site in order to get EMH thus possibly preventing someone who really needed/wanted a campsite to actually camp from being able to get one. The fact is, you were willing to pay to get that EMH benefit, so it really should not have been anyone else's business. Sometimes Disney's website is not very "user friendly" to be able to reserve a site for just a few days and people have to "work the system" a little bit. Even if you do have to book 14 days and then call the next day or two and cancel the extra days, in the long run that site does become available for someone who wants to book those days to camp.

You can even call right back a few minutes later to cancel the "extra" days - thereby freeing those days up for someone that actually needs them very quickly.

I don't think either of these options are wrong. That is my opinion. I did what I had to do. You do what you have to do to get the days you want. I just feel slamming a person is unnecessary, and if you recall I really got slammed. It is just funny how things are okay to do when you are the one that gets the benefits of those actions. Rant done. I hope everyone has a great 4th of July at the Fort , off site or at any of the Disney resorts. :cool1::banana::yay:

What is EMH? Only been able to get to DW 2x/s...not there since 2006. Longing to return someday.

 Maybe I missed something?! Where did you get slammed? Don't take it personally, it is a shame that we have to play the "reservation game" but it is what it is. My personal opinion, I don't care what you do with your site, if your paying for it, it's yours! I don't think it is any different than families, or groups, buying 3 or 4 sites just to park in or play games in. If you were booed on another forum, RUN AWAY and play with us! Everyone here has always been friendly, helpful and NON-JUDGEMENTAL!

Someone wrote that they heard you could rent a camp site and not camp there and get the benefits of staying on site. Like EMH. I did that for the 4th of July. We have 7 people in our party, so for 63 dollars we all would get room keys for 24 hours. This would of allowed us to be in MK on the 4th for EMH. It was on this board. When I said I did that, they called me all kinds of names. It even made the podcast. I all so think if you pay for something it is up to you how you use it. What the complaint was about, was that I was taking away someones camping trip at the fort, because I booked a campsite that I was not really camping on. It does not matter now, because of the calendar change, EMH is no longer at MK on the 4th.. Until Disney catches on to some of these things, people are going to do what they have to, to get what they want. Just like they took away the Free Dinning for campers.

If you aren't going to camp at the site, then don't make the reservations. This is only being done at The Fort because it's cheaper than any other resort. Why not make it at a value resort, because you, any one else that does this, don't want to pay the fee. It's unfortunate because when people do this, it prevents people who want to make a legitimate reservation unable to. They may have wanted to check in on the 4th and now are unable to. I could see this happening during peak seasons. Disney needs to find a way to control this problem.

The reason you have to book 14 nights to even get a site on the weekends is that for some weird reason (and only at the campground) they set up the reservation system to show no availability on weekends and busy holidays for shorter stays when the Fort gets to a certain booking level on certain dates.

I would imagine they do this because the Fort may have a higher weekend to weekday stay discrepancy than the other resorts and they are artificially trying to correct this. If they TRULY wanted to correct this, they would restrict checkin dates and impose stricter cancellation policies. They haven't, but they may.

Things like booking a site on a busy holiday when there is no intention of using the site adds to that level and therefore helps cause the booking problem.

Umm...there is a HUGE difference between reserving a camp site just so people can go the to the parks early and/or stay late versus booking 2 weeks or more and then cancelling extra days in order to beat the ridiculous reservation system of Disney. The campsites takin' the way you and others have done prevents others from getting it and it just sits VACANT. The person who booked extra days to get the days they wanted to actually camp will cancel those extra days almost immediately so others can reserve them. HUGE DIFFERENCE!

I suggest for those that want EMH or any other Disney Perk to book a room at a Deluxe Resort such as the Grand Floridian as they are generally not booked to capacity so there are always vacancies. The room would be vacant either way so there would be no harm no foul if it was not used. The camp sites are generally always booked and hard to get so not using it irks alot of campers who would have liked to camp.

This is just my opinion and is not an attack on you personally but there really is a HUGE DIFFERENCE between them.

You got called all kinds of names?

On this board?

As in the camping board here?

When did that happen?

Because I sure missed it, and can't seem to find any such posts.

If you were treated so badly here, why did you come back and start this thread?

Are you just trying to pick a fight?

I know you are canceling these extra nights, but before you do that, people can not get a site because you are booking 14 nights, when you really only want 3 days!

As others have mentioned, once booked, call back immediately and cancel unwanted dates. Doubt it would be an issue. Especially since it is rather common knowledge to call back later to see if someone has in fact canceled.

If you are not on the DIS you do not know these things.

Not true. We've known this for years. If you can't get the dates that you want, play around with the dates until you can.

At least when I booked my 1 night, I was using it for something.

The campsite was not being used. It prevented people who actually wanted to camp the use of the campsite. Canceling a site that is not going to be used isn't exactly the same as keeping a site that is not going to be used.

HOLY COW!! I found the thread where you got bashed! I personally think most made a mountain out of a mole hill. You paid the full price for the site, so you get the perks. Sorry you got attacked, no one deserves that.

My theory is that if you know you're coming then book far in advance. I doubt seriously that you don't know if you're going to Disney for a peak time at the last second. If you can't get a site then oh well. I stay during 2 peak times annually. 4th of July and Thanksgiving and I book way in advance. If the people rent a site for EMH then oh well. I don't like it but if you pay for it then I say go for it.

INTERESTING.........Right under your thread is one asking about staying OFF property and coming in to watch the movie, campfire sing a long, and fireworks. The same argument can be made, "they took all the seats at the campfire, beach..." These are people who aren't contributing AT ALL to the fort, yet do it everyday. At least you paid for your site! I agree with stacktester, I book my vacations early, if I can't get them, (BUMMER) I go elsewhere, and appreciate my next fort visit even more.
