What's up with the Yetti????

No matter where they are stress cracks could be a major issue. In the first place stress cracks are hard to repair because they tend to continue to expand after the repair. Secondly repair only covers up the underlying problem which is the fact that the structure itself is under designed. In a long-term the only true solution normally is a complete redesign and rebuilding of the structure to solve the original design problem.

In this case I'm sure the short term solution (possibly the final solution) will be to stop or limit the movement of the Yeti to increase the safety for the visitors and to reduce further damage. No matter how you look at it it's not a pleasant situation.

This seems the most logical reason. As I said he does swing with the force of a 747 taking off every time a "train" goes by. And over time that has to do some damage.

Also while I was working there, a coworker told me how one time the Yeti's arm was "broken" and guests were trying to high-five him from the train.

Poor Yeti, they need to fix it :sad2: .

My only concern is if it truly is stress fractures I wonder how good Disney Engineering really is? Strength of materials and structural design are basics of engineering and if they fail in these fields what happens when they get into complex engineering problems? Or maybe the Yeti was a project done by a Co-op engineering student! :rotfl2:

I rode it 3 weeks ago and also noticed the eagle didn't fly over when you get to the part where the tracks are ripped up and then you go backwards.

That bird is a case where Disney did outsource its creation, to Garner Holt Productions. It's one of several effects that are no longer in operation on Expedition Everest. :(

Certainly shows that Disney isn't what it used to be. Having any effect of service in the past would've had heads rolling and now it's an acceptable practice. Not only has their engineering ability declined but so has their view of customer satisfaction and quality of visit.

I brought this up to a couple friends of mine. I was informed the yeti himself is not broken, but they turn him off unless there are celebrities or media in the park. The reason is the base is cracked and that's why they keep it turned off.

Certainly shows what Disney thinks of their visitors! Visitors aren't good enough to get the full effect of a ride, they just save it for celebrities and media who aren't paying in the first place! Either it's safe enough to use all the time or it's not safe to use. The idea of "we'll use it sometimes" sucks from a customer service perspective.

Well I heard that the original yeti was actually chernabog that the imagineers had trapped there to keep him from taking over the parks and that maleficent has helped him escape so they had to put something there quick so people wouldn't be suspicious.

That made me laugh! I just finished Kingdom Keepers 2 and loved it!!:rotfl:

agreed

I thought a CM on the boards here mentioned that there was a serious crack in the base to which "Betty" is attached, and that repairing it is a fairly large undertaking. I don't think it has anything to do with some company going out of business...I doubt that would have stopped Disney.

Correct. I am doing an internship down here and a girl working there said the spine/base of the Yeti is broken. Plans are indeed underway to repair it. They are figuring out the budget right now.

Never even realized the Yetti moved...didn't effect my ride experience...though this is not my favorite ride...I think Tower of Terror and Rock and Roller Coaster are better.

I never realized there was an eagle flying over

Oh, they do turn off the effects at DLP too, some effects, I saw the for the first (and only) time with the big press event to launch the 15th anniversary.

And what is Kingdom Keepers??

it would be your favorite if the yeti moved.

No, I don't think Yeti has anything to do with it...it seems slow to me. I like the drops on Tower of Terror and the inversions on Rock n Roller Coaster.

Maybe if the backwards portion was longer...I would like to better.
