What's the deal with all of the Studios being booked for the second week in October? I wouldn't have thought that they would be full, but every studio in every resort is full. Does anyone know the reason?

Probably the EPCOT food & wine festival.

Yep. Food and Wine Festival.

One of the truisms about DVC is that DVC peak periods are not necessarily the same as Disney's peaks. F&W is one such period, and the first two weeks in December are another.

Definitely Food & Wine Festival. I would be surprised if much of anything is available.

Food & Wine Fest, the golf tournament and Columbus Day weekend probably.

We're using up a 2BR BW view during that week. Surely you didn't expect to reserve anything at that time with a month's notice.Notably this year the Food & Wine Fest, Columbus Day and the Jewish High Holidays coincide in that week. We get both Rosh Hashona and Columbus Day (Yom Kippur a few days later too) in our district, and since we're Episcopalian, it simply makes for an extra day off from school. So DD misses just 3 days of school for a 6 day vactation. If we'd been savvier about it we would have started the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend and stayed thru the following Sunday, which would have given us 8 days while missing just 3 school days.

Yeah, we reserved this week at 11 months. I would have considered you very lucky indeed to find anything for the week before Columbus day at less than a month out.

I think it's the halloween party and they say the weather is great

We knew about the Food & Wine festival, but didn't know about the golf tournament. And our kids don't have Columbus Day off, so we didn't think that would be a big deal. We went in October last year and had no problem getting a room a month in advance. Oh well, we'll make due somewhere else. Thanks for the info!

October 17-23 is the PGA FUNAI Tournament at WDW.

If you'd really like to head to WDW, I'd put your name on the waitlist. If you'll take a studio at any resort something just might open up.

Apparantly the word got out that Madam & Maistre Gracey would be at WDW that week. That would certainly explain the rush on rooms.
It wouldn't surprise me if there were no rooms available anywhere in the Orlando area. ;)

DVC resorts usually operate and pretty high occupancy. Its how they are set up. You need to use your points or they go to waste, and there are points out there to keep the rooms at 97% occupancy.

I suspect a lot of points go to waste - but not enough to be able to reliably get short term reserverations.

Some times of year are easier with DVC to get reservations with little notice than others. October and early December are not times its easy. Those are the times where the waitlist comes in to play at smaller resorts/low quantity rooms before the seven month window opens and often the waitlist is in play at all the resorts by five months out.

Did you ask MS and CRO about cash reservations? If there are routinely a lot of units available one month out for sold out resorts, the system will be in trouble at some point.

Have been their with the family on Columbus wk-end....MK very crowded we thought....most kids have 4 days off at that time...we chose to take them out of school and go the next wk..love the F&W festival and going to MNSSHP this time....
