What's up with the SSR pull out mattress?

We just got back from SSR (studio), and the pull out sofa has the wierdest and most uncomfortable mattress. It's in 3 different pieces that velcro and zip to the couch. They're not very thick, and were so bad in the middle piece that we had to switch them around to get the cushy piece in the middle so my hips had some support.

They're nothing like the pull outs at BCV last December.

We stayed @ SSR for the first time in Oct. Had to move from a 2BR to a studio when we added 2 extra nights last minute. My Son and DIL had to sleep on the pull-out and I could not believe the difference. Didn't even look like a mattress to me. Just like a thin cushion. I felt awful for them.
Well, now we know we've outgrown a studio at anywhere but OKW.

You have me worried. I'm staying at SSR for the first time in October. One concern I had when buying into DVC was the comfort of the sofa bed!

This is the same type of sleeper sofa that they have at OKW now. My son didn't think it was as comfortable as the one at BCV.

Oh, No!! We hadn't needed a sleeper in a long time so I had no idea they changed out the ones in OKW. We're just starting to plan out a large family trip for April and may have to rethink sleeping arrangements.

Crap, I thought OKW was the same as BCV. OKW was nice back in 2006, I"m sorry to hear they changed them. Luckily studios at OKW have 2 beds.

On a bright side for those of you who are worried, rest assured you won't be feeling any springs...just foam without much support at all.

My DH and I didn't find the pull-outs at SSR uncomfortable. I liked them better than the old style that had bars underneath and then the mattress would sag through the bars and you would wake up with a sore back. We did enjoy the ones at BWV also, which are a little different again. No couch is going to sleep like a bed, so if you are really opposed to using a pull-out couch you will have to go with a bigger room.

Now I am a little worried. We stayed at SSR once two years ago, but do not remember much about the sofa bed - my two boy slept on it. I do remember that they at least did not roll to the middle like some of them! However, since they are getting older, they seem to be pickier about where they sleep - ripe old ages of 16 & 12. The sofa bed at AKV last month was a very thin cushion - would not call it a mattress. If that is the same with the ones at SSR, they are not going to be happy for our trip the week before Christmas.

I slept on the same type back in June '08 for 6 nights. I had no problem at all with it. Like the previous poster stated, its a sofa bed not a regular bed so things are a bit different. I found mine to be just right.

We have no problem with them either. We had 42 people at SSR last year and not one complaint about the beds. AKV Jambo, also has the same style sofa beds as SSR. The sofa chair is also foam.

The BCV and BWV sofa beds are the newest style with a mattress and the cushions store with underneath when folded out. A little more cushiony as a bed, but a terrible sofa to sit on. If feels like sitting on upholstered plywood. So there are trade offs. I like the overstuffed couch with the big cushions, at least there is the option of sleeping on the couch and not pulling out the bed.

I thought both of them were terrible to sit on. Scratchy fabric and cushions that were hard as rocks.

We were just there 6/28 - 7/6 and had a studio. Our son slept on the pull out sofa and said it was very comfortable.

Just another reason I think folks make a mistake when they assume the sofa bed is a "bed". We never ask an adult to sleep on the pull outs. The last time we did was for NYE a couple years ago when we decided to add that night past the 11 month window. A 2 bedroom was no longer available, so we had 5 adults in a 1 bedroom. Of course, two had to sleep on the pull out, and one had to sleep on cushions on the floor. We knew it was only for one night though, so it was a small sacrifice.

DH and I recently slept on the pull out in a 1 bedroom at SSR for 5 nights. It was just fine.

We gave our guests (his parents) the king.

I hope nothing has changed recently.

when we youred DVC we specifically looked at the sofabeds and they were a nice thick mattress (compared to others).

the first time we went to SSR(2005) , we stayed in a studio and it was fine,
since than we have used two bedrooms.

we are going next week:banana: to a one bedroom and will be using the sofabed again for my DD.

I have to agree with the OP. We stayed at SSR in a studio last October and the pullout was awful! The foam pads were so thin and they separated so you had gaps. We were in the carousel too so our bed was very new.

Funny, cause I remembered the pullout being comfy in Jan 06 when we stayed in a studio in congress park. Do all the rooms have the same sofa? Or did they change part way through construction?

I dont' know if they all have the same sofas or not. But we were in Congress Park in a studio last week, and it sounds like the same kind you had in Carousel.

All SSR sofa beds are the same. Memory Foam mattress with removeable cushions.

Also, if your sofa bed seems in disrepair, call maintenance. They will fix it or replace it.
