What's Up With the Rocky Horror Tribute?

Before our RIP Tour, we managed to see most of the RH tribute show. I was shocked at the number of people who left before the end! Is it because they are offended? If so, do they have any clue whatsoever what RH is all about before they park their butts in the theater?

At the very beginning, when the crowd is asked the proper responses to Brad and Janet (naughty words I can't use here), two or three people marched out with their kids. At various points throughout the show, more and more people left. Were they bothered by the scanty clothing? The cross-dressing? The audience responses that were being yelled enthusiastically throughout the show? Haven't they ever heard of Rocky Horror before?

Personally I thought it was GREAT!!! I was sad that we had to leave right before the last number because of our RIP tour, but we'll be returning next week. I sure hope they don't dumb the show down or get rid of it next year because of all the "bailers."

I didn't get to attend HHN. But, I would imagine the whole event is for teenagers and adults - no children. Do people not read about the event before they attend.

two or three people marched out with their kids
What are kids doing here anyway???

My son is 12 and of course, thinks he is old enough to attend HHN - but I think not. I think he needs to be at least 14-15 before attending.

I thought it was great! This event really is not for children. Take them to Disney instead if under 12 I think.

I think the whole problem with this show is people must have thought..since "horror" was in the name it would be something scary. I'm a huge fan of the movie and have seen it at least 100 times. This is not the type of show that the common theme park audience would see which is why people were leaving. They had no idea what the movie was about and hence had no idea what the show was about. When they saw the adult content, they left with the kids. When Macraven and I saw it, we noticed small groups leaving during the performance as well. The RHPS has a very limited audience when compared to the typical theme park goer. This show was more for the fans than the common person...IMHO.

One who didn't like it here ...

You're either a RHPS person or you're not.

We're not. We didn't leave, but we didn't like the show either.

We would not have gone, but it was part of our RIP tour.

The clothing and crass humor didn't bother us at all (we loved Bill and Ted). We don't like Beatleguise's Grave Yard Review either.

Young kids should not be anywhere near HHN, let alone the RHPS Tribute. It amazes me the number of people pushing strollers in HHN. Not wise, IMHO.

I don't blame people for leaving though. Many people are only there for HHN for one night. If they don't like the show, why waste their time there if they could be going through a house or doing something else they'd rather do?

Not everyone knows what the RHPS is. There were many, many people from the UK and Columbia there when we were ... is the RHPS a cult classic over there too? (not sure, just asking here)

Anyway, I hope as you said, they don't dumb down the show just because people are leaving. That would be wrong for those who enjoy it.

It is in the UK

Nothing new then--was at the first show the first night, and I have never seen so many people walk out of a theme park show. It seemed to me maybe 15% of the audience "got it"--doing the callback lines, dancing to "Time Warp"--while everyone else just sat there kind of dazed.

It doesn't help that, by cutting the show to 30 minutes, the plot is impossible to follow if you haven't seen the movie. But ultimately I think there are just a lot fewer Rocky fans than horror fans and theme park junkies.

I've seen RHPS ONCE. I know many people who are die hard RHPS fans, and most people know that RHPS is naughty. I even heard that there's a warning before the HHN show that the show is VERY risque and for anyone that gets easily offended to leave NOW.

Some people just don't listen... :confused3

Yeah, they did do a BIG fast forward from Rocky and Janet's tryst to the floor show, so if you didn't know the plot it would be like, "Hunh?" My husband is a virgin but he still enjoyed the show; of course, being married to me he has seen bits and pieces countless times on TV or DVD and knows the general concept. I see it as a fair trade-off...he is a Trekkie while I am into RHPS. One of these days I am going to drag him to the midnight show at the CityWalk theaters. Sad that so many people don't get it (or worse yet, bring little kids!) as I think they did a great job on the show.

Thank goodness we don't have kids. Can you imagine a bunch of kidlets with Vulcan ears dressed in teddies?

How anyone 50 or under could've not been familiar with the material of RHPS defies logic:confused3

I fondly recall midnight showings;) of the flick; it has aged well imo.

Yes, my kiddies are all familiar with it, lord knows it's been on mainstream tv for years - would've been hard to miss it.

sorry i missed it:sad1: , the show @ U.

to the OP; believe i've perused your website as to "secret staterooms"; if so - many thanks for the info:thumbsup2 If not; blame it on too many nights whiled away...let's do the time warp again:dance3:

We saw the tribute the first Saturday of HHN and this last Sunday.
As usual, they warned those with children numerous times. Finally with the gals and guys came out, out went some parents with their kids. (What did they think the warnings were for? :rolleyes1 )
Both times we really enjoyed the tribute. It was better this last time than the first, only because they seemed to have learned a little here and there.
I have seen the movie many times over the years. I really think what was on stage was more "racy" than the movie. And the movie is even hard to follow in a theatre. That was why I bought the VHS of RHPS -- so I could learn the story details. :rotfl:
The only change I would have liked to see would have been the characters dancing in the time warp, dressed as the time warp charaters, rather than the Frederick's of Hollywood version HHN did. :rotfl2:
Especially with all those motorcycles they have around. They could have had a fantastic scene even using one and having the Meatloaf character.
But the cast did a fantastic job. :thumbsup2

Yep, that's me (well, mostly my DH nowadays).

Yeah, Meat Loaf was the one thing I really would have liked to see included. We're going to HHN tomorrow and the 1st, so we'll finally get to see the show all the way through. Maybe I should make up some audience participation lines to yell at the people with kids walking out, like "Learn to pay attention to warnings, dummy!"

but metro west wouldn't let me dance to the time warp........

yea, many young couples walked out during the "shower/rain" scene.
they could have used the park guide map to cover their head....

i'm a fan of all of the above.

kids don't belong at HHN. Universal doesn't even sell children tickets for it.
that should be a heads up to the parents that dragged their 5, 6, 7 year olds to it when i was there.

i own the dvd.
if you know the story line, you'll do fine

i double dog dare you.......:rolleyes1

i was sad the meat loaf scene was not included.

metro west and i agreed one other scene should have been put in the show.
right before janet does her touch me song.

Technically that would be two scenes, wouldn't it? (If I have the right idea.)
