We are trying to decide between BOG and Whispering Canyon for a night of our trip and was looking at the Kids Dinner Menus. Is it me or is something strange here?

First of all, there are only really 4 choices,

Secondly, I really dont see any standard kids staples .. Grilled Cheese, Chik Nugs, Hot Dog, plain pasta wbutter, etc ... instead we are given the choice of Fish of the Day, Multigrain Cheese Dippers, Beef Macaroni, and a Cheeseburger.

I have a 3 & 5 yo .. anyone know of a 3 or 5 year old that would touch "Fish of the Day"? Understand that kids menu is for older kids too, but cmon would it hurt to have a simple kids food option for those picky or young kids? Even a cheeseburger in my mind is not friendly for the youngest of kids.

You think they would make a standard grilled cheese if we asked them?

And for those saying Disney needs to keep it more healthy thats fine to each their own.. just bring back some simple offerings as an addition.

    Anyone agree?

My son would eat fish of the day....and he would have eaten it at 3 years old. Of course, he will also eat chicken tenders every meal if he could, but he won't touch pizza...weirdo

Anyhow, I would think anyplace that has cheese and bread would make a grilled cheese or if they have macaroni they could make it plain?

I am with you that my 5 year old would certainly want your choices more than the choices at BOG. And I may be crazy but I am glad for the different menu. We will be there eight days and using the dining plan so the thought of my kid eating chicken, pizza, and grilled cheese for some 14 meals -wow! She would love it!! But for me, I am working hard to get my daughter out of the chicken nugget rut and if disney magic won't help her try something new, well, I am in trouble!

I had great success asking for something not officially on the menu for her on our last trip, so I def think you should ask. The worst they can say is no. I would think they would certainly do the Mac with plain sauce no beef, or butter. Good luck!!

This has been a hot topic here since the menu was first released. I agree with you, we would have loved to try BOG, it looks amazing. But our kids would not eat there. Well, one would, but the other 2 would not. Maybe when they are older.

I don't agree. There's a ton of restaurants there all serving mac n cheese and chicken nuggets. I think it's about time they have a restaurant serving something healthier. IMO, they need a lot more places serving it.

    I totally disagree with you!!!!
I think it is great that there are finally kids menus that are expanded beyond the nuggets and pizza offerings.
If your children don't like those 2 menus, there are many, many other restaurants that will work for you.
Horray for those that want something more for their children.

I think it's nice to see some variety on the kids menu, but I agree with the OP that having one or two "staple" kids choices (like mac 'n cheese or chicken nuggets) along with the variety is something Disney could very easily do and something that would appeal to all types of eaters, the more adventurous right down to the super picky.

My kids would easily eat most of that (except the beef macaroni), they're 2 and 4. My kids love fish to, for what that's worth. I think different kids have different tastes. I've also learned that if you ask at just about any TS they can whip something else up for kids that isn't on the menu. I've had mac n cheese made up at places that serve pasta (it may not look like elbow noodles but its noodles with cheese) or other "kid fare" if that is what your kids want at that meal. I would simply ask and plan your meal around what YOU would rather eat.

FWIW, the "Fish of the day" is my kids top choice on that menu (they are 6 and 8) but they have eaten fish since they could eat solids...they also love lamb and spinach but despise pizza...:sad2:

Every child is different and I'm sure the BOG menu fits the taste of plenty of kiddos. But, like the PP's have said...I'm sure you could order plain pasta. :goodvibes

If they are trying to be healthy (and I'm sure that's what it is) then they are well aware those " simple items" are not healthy.

I can't think what's more simple than plain baked fish or chicken.

The thing to do is write disney, it worked back when they tried to limit the kids meals to fruit or yogurt or sugar free gelatin for dessert.

I do see wanting finger foods for toddlers. Many places serve those, maybe feed the kids before you hit the restaurant if you really want to go there.

My kids all pick fish of the day as their top choice, especially DD5. It's so refreshing to finally have a menu they'll really enjoy like BOG. Their options are pretty limited in the grand scheme of things.

Sorry, OP, I can't agree with you. At all. For too many years kids were limited to an unhealthy high fat diet of junk food. Disney is finally providing more nutritious options. You can still find all the junk food you want at plenty of other places in WDW. I'm a firm believer that if you don't like what's on the menu you should look elsewhere (dietary restrictions excepted).

My DS5 is an incredibly picky eater (dislikes most proteins) and it is rare we can even order something for him off of the kids menu at WDW. I have figured out ways to build a balanced meal for him no matter where we are. Sometimes it costs me more because I have to order some items off of the adult menu and sometimes I have to carry a few things with me, but I have learned to dance around his eating habits and I will take him anywhere now. He has been to almost every TS restaurant at WDW including signatures and we will try BOG lunch and dinner at the new Monsieur Paul in EP (he is very well behaved in restaurants!). Yes, I agree with the PP - plan on eating where you would like to eat. Perhaps your children will surprise you and try something new!

I agree with these two! Its about time they offered healthier options instead of the same junk for kids.

If your kids want chicken nuggets, there's a million places around that serve them.

I'm glad they are adding other options to their kids menus. My kiddos will eat PB&J and mac and cheese sometimes but it is not a staple in their diets. Mine tend to lean towards steaks, crab legs, pastas with shrimp. So when I planned our trips I looked over the menus and chose according to their tastes. DS7 on his birthday trip loved bangers and mash.

Each kid is different. Im just glad WDW doesn't think every kid survives on mac and cheese, and nuggets.

My 4 year old would choose the fish of the day over a cheeseburger or chicken nuggets any day!

Last year when we were there she was so happy to be offered steak and broccoli at CRT that this year she specifically requested it.

Of course I raised her from birth to eat adventurously.

She loved getting crab legs at Fulton's and sushi at Epcot.

I'm glad they are giving more (and slightly heathier) options.

What I don't get is why Disney seems to make the menus "all or nothing". Either the kids menu is only chicken nuggets, hamburgers and Mac and cheese, or it is grilled chicken, fish and steak. Why not a mix of both sets at ALL restaurants? 2 options could be for the "picky" eaters and 2 options could be for the more adventurous eaters. It seems to me there are a lot of people unhappy with kids meals at Disney on both sides of the issue. If they just did a combo of both everyone would be happy.
