what's to damage on CC?

Ok, I have not been to CC but have watched the DCL video and see pictures of it. It doesn't seem that there is that much actually out there. So, if it was badly damaged during the storm, what would stop the ships from coming there in a few weeks??

I am NOT challenging DCL. I am just wondering: Assuming the dock is ok, If they pick up the downed trees and debris, why couldn't the passengers enjoy the beach?

There's no real reason they can't.

The steps are like this:

IF the dock is ok is the biggest question out there.

IF they have to repair/replace it the time till someone gets there is a lot longer.

After that, the next step is to dredge the area next to the dock to allow for clearance for the ship. They had to do this when they first started cruising, it is certain the hurricane refilled it. And this is a lot larger area than you think; they have to dredge a good way out into the ocean as the dropoff is very gradual for a good ways out.

Then they can clear all the public areas and put together some kind of plan depending on how severe the damage is.

In four visits I still have not made it over to the adult beach but I can speak of the family and snorkle areas, there is the rental shack, the parasialing dock, the tram, cookies BBQ, the kids area (can't recal the name right now) the whale dig area, the dock to swim out to and tandom off of, the "outlook" bar as I call it a neat bar with telescopes and such, the gorgeous landscaping, the hammocks, chairs etc.

Oh there's certainly lots of buildings Ann, but none of them are that necessary to just having a good afternoon at the beach, and don't think that them being damaged would stop Disney from docking there, they'll just block them off while rehabbing them, just like they do at the World.

I was just answering the question about what is to be damaged, on the island, my guess would be that as long as the dock was fine and the lagoon netting intact they would have business as usual ASAP. Heck all I need is a lounge chair and a konk cooler and I am all set !

Me too.

As far as the beach, they do have to dredge up the channel next to the dock, an immediate source of sand.

And after chatting with Barb, who has seen CC before/after Floyd, if anything the Adult beach will have an overabundance of sand to be removed as well.

This is a very important point. I have seen CC from the air, while parasailing last year.

The highest point on the island is probably less than 20 feet high.
Frances, and her big ugly eye, were over our favorite island for a very, very, long time.

It it highly possible that the entire island is underwater. And even removing all of the brown dead vegetation will be quite an undertaking.

I am crossing my fingers and toes that the rebuilding will be finished in the next 2 months, but I'm not holding my breath.

I think if you realize the trouble DCL would be in if the First Aid facility was damaged and not repaired before CC's reopening you would probably revise that observation, huh?

My good afternoon at the beach involved a necessary trip to first aid and they have a LOT of emergency equipment there, in addition to the cartoon bandages.....

For that, I do refer back to the fact there is a ship there at dock with its own infirmary. Nothing stopping them from setting up some field tents and bring out the gear. As it had already been they do bring the staff and some gear out from the ship.

Not like the ship is going to drop everyone off and leave, it is very self-sustaining, no reason that wouldn't extend to while docked at the island.

Certainly it would be more convenient to be in permanent structures on the island, but not absolutely necessary to be able use the island.

And one thing that really everyone forgets, all the food, merchandise, and other consumables are brought off the ship as soon as we dock.
