Whats there see in YOUR state??

I am planning a trip in the future with my daughter where we will leave after the last day of school and just go for as long as we feel like it visiting as many states as we can...I want to have some fun things to do in each state and some interesting things too...so...whats fun and or interesting in YOUR state!

Depends on what you want to see in VA.

- Civil War battlefields, including Appomattox, where the war ended

- the homes of 4 of the first 5 Presidents of the US

- Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown, where Cornwallis surrendered and the US won the revolution (man, those Schoolhouse Rock songs really stick in one's head!) are all within easy drives of each other, and Busch Gardens is nearby as well

- Kings Dominion is just north of Richmond

- the Blue Ridge Mountains and Natural Bridge, if you want to see something of nature

california (northern)-the sierras, geysers, hot springs, pacific coast (sandy and rocky beaches), missions, vineyards, gold fields, agriculture, farming, ancient redwood trees, very diverse cultures/environments, odd architechture (coit tower and lombard street in san francisco ), HUGE OVERCROWED schools, small one room schoolhouses and downright wierd placement of things (in a 10 minute drive to school we drive past homes, schools, a christmas tree farm, a nut orchard, corn/strawberry fields, a dairy and an international bio-tech company-all without going on a freeway ).

p.s. good for you-my friend's dad did this every summer when school let out (he was a teacher). they loaded the kids in a camper and just took off. by the time he was 18 he had been to every state except hawaii and had spent enough time in each to realy get a feel for the state and the people.

Those are just the biggies. There are also numerous state parks, lakes, recreation areas, etc. Have fun on your trip!

In Georgia, we have the north georgia mountains with the all it's waterfalls, parks, ski resorts, the bavarian village of Helen, Civil War sites and the start of the Appalachian trail. Of course Atlanta with all a big city has to offer, but also the newly opened aquarium, largest in the world. The world of Coke is a lot of fun, tons of museums for any taste, underground atlanta, MLK museum and home, the braves and the rest of our sports teams. Just to the east, Stone mountain, the second most visited park in the world behind only disney world. Further East, Athens and then Augusta Ga, home of the Masters golf tourny, a great riverfront area, museums and historical homes. traveling south, Savannah is a fantastic city to visit with hundreds of years of history including pirates and "Garden of Good and Evil" sites. Macon, another historical town, home to a number of famous musicians, etc. Continuing south through Plains, and the Carter presidential home, and nearby birthplace of Habitat for Humanity. Just a short drive away is Warm Springs and the "Little White House" , FDR's home when away from Washington DC. As you travel south, through various small towns and their odd attractions finishing in Valdosta, about 3 hours from Disney World

In South Dakota you could see the Badlands, Wall Drug, Mt. Rushmore, Keystone, Custer State Park, the Black Hills, Deadwood, Sturgis and a ton of small tourist areas. These are all basically in the SW corner of the state.

First off, it has 2 of the BEST parks for Coasters in the World...(BOTH are Fantastic!!!!)

~Amish Country
~Longaberger Basket Factory and Store at the Homestead

The Manse & the President's grave is in Concord, NH
Fort @ # 4 important outpost during the French & Indian War & Revolutiuonary War. A living history museum in the sleepy town of Charleston, NH. Special events, re-enactments, costumed interpreters. DS17 loves the canon!

hike in the White Mts or on one of our easier spots such as Mt Lovewell in Washington, NH in Pillsbury State Park (no facilities, just as nature intended) or Mt Monadnock

Maryland has ocean, hills (they call them mountains, but I'm from Oregon, these are hills...), Baltimore with an Orioles baseball game, aquarium, science museum, and a nice inner harbor area, crabs (if you like crabs--I don't eat them), and of course the best thing, ME! Also, Washington DC is nearby with everything that it has to offer (lots!).
