Or makes you want to remove where you live from your user info? I'm tough, I'll go first!

The question as to whether or not to ban cockfighting in Oklahoma..

Somebody put a bag over my head please!

If CNN puts one more of those guys in overalls chewing on hay on camera again, make the bag plastic!!!!

In Florida, it's Amendment #10, otherwise known as Hamendment #10

This would make it illegal to confine a pregnant pig in a cage, crate or other enclosure or to tie one up so she can’t turn around freely.

Regardless of how one feels about pregant pigs, it's ridiculous to offer them consitutional protections.

Interesting question. However, unless it's a debate......the CB may be a better place for it........

I am with Bet. I mean is a constitutional amendmant really necessary to protect pregnant pigs? I think that is carrying it a bit far. There has got to be other ways to protect them if this is really a problem.

Nikole... You're right, I never go to that board so it didn't occur to me. Is there a way to move the thread or should I just delete it from here?

Btw, I think you've already topped my fighting chickens with your pregnant pig!

Here in Illinois, I consider our most embarrassing to be the race for Attorney General, followed by the race for Governor. For Attorney General, we have:

Democrat: Lisa Madigan, daughter of Illinois Senator Mike Madigan, leader of the state Democratic Party. Lisa has never prosecuted a case.
Republican: Joe Birkett, DuPage County States Attorney, one of those who helped put and keep away Rolando Cruz, by very ugly means. Cruz has since been exhonerated beyond a reasonable doubt.

For Governor, we have:

Democrat: Rod Blagovelich (don't know spelling). Part of the Chicago Machine.
Republican: Jim Ryan, Attorney General, even more key figure in putting away Rolando Cruz.

For both, I wish I could vote for "None of the above"

I'm from Oklahoma, so I second the cockfighting one. I still can't believe that we allow that to go on in my state. Makes us look like hicks to the rest of the country.

Talk about hicks......Va. is trying to legalize raod kill...ugghhhhh!!!! One of my clients told me about this one the other day....the shame!!!!:(

I read in the Florida Times Union that only two or three farmers in FL use those crates anyway... why are we wasting our time voting on something that's only going to affect 3 people????

It's not really strange or embarassing but I do chuckle every time I read the signs that the republican candidate for governor here in MI, Dick Posthumus, has on almost every street corner...."Support Posthumus Tax Cuts":) ;) :p I'd really rather they cut my taxes before I die:) ;) :p

I love Oklahoma, don't get me wrong, but some of the things that go on here just make me cringe! I especially like the local radio commericial they have going about this issue. Not once does it mention cockfighting, but it goes on ad nauseum about how this question was put on the ballot by a "bunch of out of state animal rights activists" and ends by saying "This is Oklahoma, not California!". As though out of staters are evil and God knows there can't be anything scarier than the thought of being like California! All spoken by some guy with your typical "good 'ol boy" hick accent. The real shame of it is, we won't fund our schools properly, but some are willing to spend tens of thousands of dollars to preserve our right to let chickens slash each other to death.

We get that sort of thing a lot. I believe there is something on the ballot this year that only pertains to goat farmers.

Unfortunately, under our present system, many of these local, or small target group sort of laws can only be passed by a constitutional amendment voted on by the entire state.

We have a heavily amended constitution!!!

Another Floridian chiming in. I'm all for protecting pigs, but a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT? Puhleaze... That's a legislative issue not a constitutional one...

My 2 cents

snowwhitemom, I haven't heard about the road kill one. Maybe it's just me, but the election season here in VA has been a quiet one. Few ads at all, let alone negative ones.

For the US Senate, we have John Warner, running for his 5th (I think) term. His popularity is so high the Democrats didn't even bother putting anyone on the ballot. He does have opposition, though -- a Libertarian and a Larouchite.

For the Congressional seat, the incumbent one-term Republican is running against Ben Jones, former US Congressman from GA and the actor who played Cooter on "Dukes of Hazzard". Yes, the yard signs read "Ben 'Cooter' Jones" and I think that's how it will read on the ballot.

Okay, I just remembered something .. John Warner is an ex-husband of Elizabeth Taylor. Hmm ... I wonder if a "six degrees of separation" can be done between him and Cooter. :teeth:

How about the fact that we started to vote a week ago because of the new voting machines? Lets see if these votes count.
