Whats the "scoop" on the Ice Cream Social at Epcot?

Is this worth the time and money for 2 adults and one 3 yr old DS? I read very little about this in the guidebooks. What characters are there? Do you make your own sundae? Any "scoop" would be greatly appreciated

We did this last August, DH, DD2, DS11, DD7. The sundaes are premade. Characters were Chip and Dale, Pluto and Goofy. Might have been one more character but I can't remember for sure.

I thought it was ok. Kids didn't eat all their ice cream but the character interaction was great.

Let me check at home and see if I have any pictures. If I do I will try and scan them in so you can take a look.

We love it! We've done it twice with a two year old, and he still talks about it. We're going again in September (he'll be 2 1/2 then). Characters are Mickey, Pluto, Chip and Dale. For us, it is well worth the time and money. Cheapest character meal experience possible at WDW!! Lots of character interaction. Mickey may color with your child (he did ours) and Chip likes to feed the kids their icecream! He fed some to our DS, but according to other reports I've read, that is pretty common for him!

We just tried the ice cream social in May and it was great! (We also did the rehitching ceremony at the same time and it was hilarious! hee hee )

When we made the PS, they took my CC number to hold and I think it was apprx. $7 pp. We got plated vanilla ice cream in a cone (w/ the tip chopped off and "glued" w/ chocolate onto a cookie) w/ chocolate slithers, a cookie roll (I forgot what their called) and gummy worms.

They took our drink orders (included) and the character interaction was great. It wasn't too crowded so they each got to sit down, take pix w/ us, and pretended to eat ice cream w/ us.

The rotating "garden" was a bit weird at first, but we got used to it...

Does anyone know anything about this???

I've booked it for our Ice Cream Social in October. In making the reservation, seems like no one in Disney knows too much about it. First they told me I could only have it with dinner - I told them wrong. Then they said they'd make a note of it in my reservation. I'm not sure I have too much faith...it's our 10 year anniversary and if it goes down, it'll be a hoot. I'll be disapointed if they mess it up.

The CM's don't always know about it, but most will note it on your PS if you ask. There have been several posts lately that they are only doing this and lunch and dinner now, not the ice cream social.

Did ice cream social with DD in April. To tell the truth, I was disappointed. It really is nothing more than eating in the Garden Grille but you're served an ice cream dessert rather than a lunch or dinner entree.

The characters are standard GG .... Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, Goofy.

I guess I was expecting something special...some entertainment or other festivities. There wasn't even any special decoration to acknowledge the "event".

The desserts were fine. Good, actually. But again, if you've dined at the GG or are dining at GG during your trip, the ice cream social would be more of the same.

I doubt that I'll do ice cream social again since it interrupts the day (mid-afternoon) although I will eat dinner at GG again.

We did the rehitching ceremony last May. (I posted some photos above.) When I made the ressies over the phone, the CM didn't know what I was talking about, but she was really sweet, she looked it up and said she'll note the ressie.

When we got there, (before our ressie time) we went in to confirm that they had the "rehitching ceremony" on during the Ice Cream Social, which they did. Alot of guests who did the rehitching ceremony got certificates, (some also said they had Chip and Dale stand there as ushers!) but we didn't get it...it was a "simple" rehitching ceremony which was ok, it was still fun.

The CMs came by, made DH and I stand, exchanged "vows" and made us kiss in front of everyone while they counted to 100 (in 10 increments )

We have PS for the ice cream social on Oct. 8th. I also requested the rehitching ceremony, the CM had no idea what I was talking about but was really nice and even called the GG to see if it was offered then. They said it was even though I have read a lot of posts saying it's only for lunch and dinner. She just told me to mention it again when we arrive. Won't DH be surprised I didn't have to give my cc number either just got a confirmation number.
