Whats the point of MGM big HAT?

Why did they ruin the view of the chinese theatre with the giant Mickey Hat???? It seems to make no sense at all....Who knows the real story

I agree! I think they put it up during the 100 years celebration. I thought it was just going to be temporary, but it is still there!!!

Get rid of the hat and the "Epcot" wand on SE! (Keep the decorations on Cinderella's Castle, except for the mirror).

Yes, PLEASE get rid of the Big Ugly Hat! It totally ruins the impact of walking into the studios and looking down towards the Chinese Theater. I hate that hat.

I'm sorry but I hate the hat (well, where they put it).. and the wand but I also HATE what they did to the castle. Maybe it's cuz I'm a HUGE cindy fan and especially the castle... I think what they did .. while kind of fun to look at the characters is gawdy and looks like it's under construction with all the metal around it... it's not as bad as the horrid cake thing they did but in my opinion the castle should be left alone same with SE.

I don't care much for MGM so... I"m not as bothered

I hate the hat too; I think it's ugly and it ruins the view of the Chinese Theater. Not to mention it TOTALLY ruined one of the coolest Hidden Mickeys ever! (Granted, he'd already lost his ear, but you could still see his face and his otehr ear until the big stupid hat came along.)

Anyway, the point of the hat is to give the Disney-MGM Studios a big, recognizeable icon, like the tree for AK, the castle for MK, and SE for Epcot. Of course, it already had the Earful Tower, but Disney apparently thought that wasn't enough (and, to be fair, it was a little strange to have an icon that no guest could ever reach).

The big hat was put there because ever other park has a central icon.. ala cinderellas castle, tree of life, space ship earth.

and they took down the mickey water tower which wasn't really interesting.

on another note.. since the put that hat there... it has ruined the largest hidden mickey in WDW.

the hat sits on his nose. look at satelite photos and you'll see what i'm talking about.

I have no idea what the point of it is. I've only seen MGM with that ugly hat.

When I first saw it, I thought Mickey was giving the finger. (ok so he only has 4 fingers but it kind of looked like that).

Sometimes I wonder why Disney puts some of these things in the parks. The ugly hat in MGM, the graveyard in Epcot...

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! You're right, that's a good one!!! Although I like the MGM hat and the EPCOT wand with SE, I HATE the "graveyard"!!! WHAT were they thinking???

The only thing I don't like about the 50th castle is the BIG OVAL "THING" on the front, I LOVE all the characters, especially tink!

ME TOO!!!! There are so many empty ones!!! I want one SO BAD!! I wonder what the CM's would do if I brought my DH's dremmel (sp?) drill and starting engraving on one of the empty stones!!??
