What's the point of a Birthday Button?

I will be celebrating my birthday on my trip next week (12-21). I haven't put that I have a birthday celebration on my reservation yet but I was wondering if there was even really a reason to. Does anything special happen? What is the best thing you have ever had happen when you had your birthday in WDW?

Haha....so no point really. Was just wondering if anyone ever got any extra pixie dust for it.

ODS got special cupcakes with a candle at TS meals when we went. BOG and CM also gave him a little card with the characters' signatures. Otherwise it was just CM wishing him happy birthday everywhere.

Not actually in the parks but at the Speedway station (I think it might of been Hess still at the time) we were heading home from MK and my sister had her birthday pin on and the guy working the counter gave us our soda free of charge

Cast members wish you a happy birthday.. characters will call out from the parade to wish you one as well, or maybe more performers will come up to interact with you .. On rare occasion, some have mentioned getting a free desert at meals but as I said, rare. Really rare if your on a dining plan and your desert is part of it.

Time to time there is somethign special like being int he morning show or riding in a car in front of the parade. They might favor your group if they see the button but nobody really knows how they pick who does it.

You'll probably take it off after a few hours and only put it back on for meals just in case :) It is excessive.. oh btw, strangers saying happy bday are probably cast members on their day off.

No guarantees - CMs (and even guests) may greet you with happy birthday and I've gotten a small dessert occasionally.

The best one was getting happy birthday sung to me by a CM while waiting in line at the Sci-fi diner.
One other time (and I'm not sure this was because I was wearing the button) I was on the first car behind the driver's car on the monorail and I had the monorail driver come out at every stop on the resort monorail come into my car and "harass" me like Roz from Monster's inc. "I'm watching you Skywise", "Always watching you!" (name was on my button)

You might get a cupcake or special dessert at a restaurant. Some restaurants will sing or give you a card as well.

I have received free cupcakes and balloons. Mostly, you just get a lot of attention. A CM outside of Columbia Harbor House serenaded me lol.

I wonder if that's the same CM that sang to me outside of scifi...

Back when they still had American Idol, I got a button for 'auditioning,' and CMs kept saying Happy Birthday. It amused me.

I don't wear the pin to expect pixie dust but I have gotten small things for my birthday through out the years. Staying at Yacht Club my fiance got the card from Mickey for his birthday one year. He also got ice cream at Tony's for free. Neither of these were from a button but rather the fact I wrote it on the reservation.

The buttons aren't really about what you get for them but rather about having fun. CMs will wish you a happy birthday and some guests will too.

I've worn a birthday button twice. The first time it felt like everyone in EPCOT wished me a Happy Birthday. It was fun and a nice CM gave me a free ice cream cone. Second time was at MK. It seemed like less people wished me Happy Birthday and no freebie.

My teen granddaughter loves wearing her b'day button and hearing the CMs call out "Happy Birthday Princess." One year an older (retiree aged) CM got down on one knee, held her hand and sang "Happy Birthday" to her. She was embarrassed in the moment but loves the memory. :) she's also gotten b'day cupcakes at table service meals.

The most fun I have with the button is having people wish me a happy birthday. It just makes me feel good. :) I've gotten cards and a cupcake at Tusker House and a card from Beast and Belle at BOG. I think a couple other times I've gotten cookies or another small dessert, but it doesn't happen often. I'm going to reuse the one I got last year because the CM at the front desk drew little Mickey heads over the 'i's in my name. I thought that was really sweet of her.

We had Happy 20th Anniversary buttons last year. A bunch of CMs would tell us congratulations! But no other perks for that day. Just cool buttons and pictures. :)
