What's the longest your child has had a fever?

My DD (8) has had a fever for a week! Just when we think it's breaking it shoots back up again. She's woken up for the past week with at least 103.

We've been to the doctor twice already and they haven't found anything. They did a throat culture and blood work. She has no other symptons at all!!!

I heard that viruses can run up to 7 days. Has anyone had this???? Can you see my countdown??? I'm getting so nervous!!!

Well, let's start off with good thoughts for a quick recovery.

I recall my DD having a very stubborn fever when she had pneumonia a few years back. Everytime it would break, it would jump back up again.

I'd say keep giving her Tylenol and call the doctor back. Poor thing. She doesn't need to be sick on her vacation.

Has your DD only had 1 strep test?? If so, maybe she should have another.

When DS9 was in 1st grade, he came home on a Monday running a fever. Tuesday we went to the ped....throat culture came back negative. Wednesday, Thursday he was miserable. Motrin helped bring the fever down but he still was not well. Friday he woke up with a rash -- yep -- scarlett fever.

Last year, I had strep. DS9 caught it from me. DS4 started running a fever. I called pediatrician again, they insisted he be given a throat culture even though 2 of us in the house were positive for strep. Culture came back negative. The next day we were back at the ped's office. They sent us to the hospital to do the culture -- sure enough positive. Big surprise there.

I know my kids, when they have a slight sore throat and a high fever, I would almost bet it's strep. When I get it, I'm so miserable I wonder how my kids don't feel like death warmed over.

A few years ago, DD had a fever off & on for about a week, no other symptoms. Turned out to be a UTI, which they didn't test for during our first visit to the doctor's office.

Does she have a sore throat? Mono was going around here a few weeks ago.
