I keep reading bad things about love bugs..arent those the black fly thingy's attached to eath other by there...errr..well...ummmm ...."thingys?"

How bad are the bugs now....we leave on Saturday..i dont like bugs, not even those bugs in the throes of passion. :lovestruc

They are currently EVERYWHERE! You should have seen the bus window on our ME trip. YIKES! They come out in May and September. They are two bugs attached and seem to fly aimlessly all over the place. They usually last for about two weeks we were told, so they may or may not be there when you are. We saw lots of screaming kids as the parents wheeled strollers through mini swarms of love bugs. They seem to be more prevelant around noon time, and then later when it is dark. They do not bite, nor are they around the pool for some reason.

They are pretty bad this season. Our car is currently covered with them from a trip we made down to Mickey-town last week. If you have a personal vehicle with you, DO NOT leave the bugs stuck to the car. Wash the car as soon as possible! Their body fluids will eat your paint! It does not take long, either....[speaking from personal experience, here].

They were REALLY bad around the pool at AKL last week but once we were in the water they were fine. They also made it pretty impossible to enjoy our savannah balcony too. No one seems to know what these bugs are called except "love bugs" either. A CM in AK said all she knew was that they were created in a university lab by some students and that's why the bugs were "2-headed"! I didn't have the heart to tell her about the "Circle of Life" or the "birds and the bees..er...lovebugs". At least they don't bite. They're still really annoying though...

I am not sure about this time of year with the love bugs.....

Sorry, but title of this thread made me think of Jerry Seinfeld.

"What’s the deal with airplane food?" :rotfl2:

Quote from The Nicholls Worth....

Doucet explains why love bugs seem to always travel in pairs.

"'Cause they like to have sex,' he says. "Once the love bugs are attached, the female controls both walking and flying." Unfortunately for the male, this will be his first and last sexual experience. Following fertilization, the attached male "is digested from inside out in order to provide nutrients for the offspring," Doucet says.

Despite claims that love bugs serve no purpose, they do play a role in the local environment, Doucet says.

"Love bugs do perform a needed for for humans, the larva eat tons of dead grass but do not touch the live grass."

It goes on to explain how they're attracted to car exhaust and dead grass, which is why they're always near the roadways. Some people believe that when there are lots of love bugs, it means a light hurricane season.

Doucet is a Biology Professor at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana who has dedicated much time and energy studying love bugs.

A dryer sheet works well to remove them from your car. If you have the time thought, take a big roll of plastic wrap and wrap your bumper and take a blow dryer to it to make it stick good. Trim it and cut holes in the grill. This will hold for about a week, and will come off easy leaving no love bugs.
