What's the deal with Dunkin Donuts?

They have come back, they hit the low when everyone was on the low carb kick. But about 3 years now they have been making a come back.
I think the economy was the issue, and some folks feel they can again afford expensive donuts.

Cherish your mom and pop donut places. in CT they are mostly gone, replaced with dunkins everywhere! in a 4 bloc radius in downtown Hartford there are at least 3 or 4.

I bring my own, I can't justify the cost of buying out

In New England, if you spit, you'll hit a Dunkin.' I think my dd's small college town has more DDs than gas stations!

Here in the DC area, we are starting to get Duck Donuts, from Duck NC. They're pretty good. But up in Portland Maine, there is a small business called Holy Donuts. Holy is right. omg. Pretty much spoiled other donuts for me. Dunkin coffee is decent, and I much prefer it to Starbucks. Especially the cold brew.

We have a Shipley's here! Been here forever. I kinda thought they were the only one.

DD close here but we do have our beloved Krispy K and Shipley's. Everyone is either team KK or team Shipley's. LOl

Shipley's is how I realized DD donuts are terrible! I was visiting a friend in Texas and she took me to Shipley's. Their blueberry cake donuts!! Def worth the calories!

I live on Long Island and there are 4 just in my time in a few mile radius with a fifth one opening.

Dunks (that's what the cool kids call it) has better donuts around here than Krispy Kreme. Not sure what's the big deal about Krispy Kreme? Too sweet, undercooked, ugh. The coffee at Dunks is better than the burnt-flavor stuff at our local Starbucks too. But we have a local bakery we go to when we can, then Dunks as a backup. Dunks pumpkin muffins are great though!

The first time I tried Kk we were in myrtle beach (I live in CT) and I was excited. Then I took a bite and though how could this beautiful thing taste so nasty.

Give me a DD buttercrunch donut, or a jelly any day!

I don't drink coffee but my DH does on occasion and says cumbys is better. I do like the hot chocolate from dad and I will get an everything bagel toasted with cream cheese. They aren't my favorite bagels but they will do.

Our grocery store has pretty good jelly donuts too. We have very few mom and pop places. We went to one a few hrs ago apsicne my friend raved about it and it want my fav..although their chocolate chip cookies are da bomb!

My most favorite mouth watering donut you can't get anymore doesn't exist. Frances Bakery Shoppe in my hometown had the best donut-a kettle donut, it melted in your mouth, similar to a gazed donut. Yum!

Nothing special about a Dunkin Donuts especially if there are other donut places around. Now Shipley's on the other hand if they were ever to leave Texas, I would be a happy camper. Also if a Krispy Kream was to open back up not in the train station I would be happy to.
There is a Shipley's in Hoover, Alabama. My family loves to go there!

We have local place called Fractured Prune where you select a custom donut and they make it while you watch from behind a glass wall. They come out hot and are pretty good but found that, no matter which glazes and toppings you chose, they would all taste the same. And they are pricey and the lines get backed up since it takes a while to do just one. Some folks go in and order a dozen for home, which is what DD or KK is for... not this custom place. This is for a treat to eat right away. Been twice and likely won't ever go again.

We have Fractured Prune near us in Maryland. I like them because they support our community - they recently donated a lot of donuts to a 5K I organized.

We're a Shipley's family. Love the variety and freshness. I agree with a PP who said DD tastes artificial and waxy. I'll skip donuts if DD are the only thing available. In Austin, Round Rock donuts are pretty good.

We have DD all over the place (probably about 6 that would be convenient enough to stop at on my way to work, and I only work 11 miles away. I used to love their coffee, then I tried to drink a cup with a migraine one day at work and got sick, so I can't drink it anymore :(

The doughnuts used to be really good, but now they are just small, kind of stale, and expensive.

We now go to Mariano's, which is a super-grocery store in my area, and their doughnuts are AMAZING. Baked fresh every morning, and they are huge, light, fluffy, and taste amazing. All for about $7.00/dozen. A MUCH better deal than the little hockey pucks DD sells for the same price.

I was raised on Krispy Kremes (South Carolina) but I live in Dunkin' Donuts territory (New Jersey). I get my coffee from Wawa and on the rare occasion when I want a doughnut (I'm a bagel guy) I go to our local bakery where they are fabulous!

We love Duck Donuts, we first had them in Williamsburg. They are cake donuts made to order. You pick your glaze, topping and drizzle. So fresh and so delicious!

I agree. There a few mom and pop donut shops along the shoreline, but not many. And thankfully, nothing in my town or to close to me. :rolleyes1

The DD on the other hand is everywhere. Freestanding stores, ones in gas stations, every time you turn a corner, there is a DD. Their donuts aren't that great and we never bother get them. My husband is okay with the coffee, but I hate coffee so stick with ice tea or hot chocolate. I will say the hot chocolate from DD is amazing! LOVE IT!

Come down to Wallingford and get some donuts at Neils, it's definitely worth the ride!

Live in Nashville and we have a Shipley's here too? Don't know if it's the same one but it's my favorite. Not a DD fan. Krispy Kreme would be my next choice.

We only got Dunkin here a few years ago, and everyone was excited for it. I'd been to them in New England before and knew they were actually the world's worst donuts, waxy and dry. We have a local donut place, Gibsons, which has been featured on food shows and such, plus a lot of other good mom & pop's that make great donuts. I can't imagine going to Dunkin!
Are you in Memphis?

There is a place in Wells Beach, Maine called Congdon Donuts. It is locally owned and operated, not a franchise. People from all over New England are known to go there and stay in Wells Beach just for the Donuts and other breakfast items.
