I'm trying really hard to get into the food at Disneyland, but nobody here seems to care or talk about it. Should I just give up? I'm a WDW vet looking from some good grub on my first DLR trip. Please point me in the right direction.:flower3: I got no response on the Food Porn thread. I've looked at the menus, but I'm looking for personal Dis reviews, and food porn! The Food Porn thread here is pathetic at best.:sad2: C'mon guys even if you're all locals you still got to eat while enjoying some Disney. Right? :confused3

Whoa! Our Food Porn Thread is Pathetic???
I think it's Awesome!

Thanks Mike for posting the link.. you beat me to it!

Lori

It didn't so much draw attention as it drew disbelief. I really don't think you needed to be so harsh at all. Our food porn thread is amazing and fyi, not everyone who goes to DL is a local, I'm sure not but I still go as often as I can. :)

What places did you enjoy at WDW?

My favorites at DL/DCA are:
Counter Service
Plaza Inn on mainstreet. Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, biscuit and chocolate cake.
Riverbelle Terrace for breakfast.
Hungry Bear for hamburgers.

Taste Pilots for the ribs.

Steakhouse 55 for some awesome steaks.

fav place is stage door-golden horseshoe
Plaza in chr meal is best
a few we like and will try cct
and BB

Well I don't think I can compare with a food pron thread, or Hydroguy's thread, but I'll throw my 2 cents in and give a nod to Fiddler, Fifer, and Practical Cafe at DCA. I've said it a number of times on this forum, but it's just because I've loved it so much. Their sandwiches are terrific, and the views are even better.

At Disneyland, my favorite place to eat is at Rancho Del Zocalo where I usually get the enchilada plate. The burrito is pretty great too. And get the chips and salsa!

Our favorites are:

bread bowl place at Paradise Pier
Rancho Zocalo
Whitewater Snacks in the Grand Californian
Goofys Kitchen at the DL hotel
Carnation Cafe

We just had our first DLR visit and our favorite's were Blue Bayou (more for the atmosphere than the food), Minnie's Breakfast at Plaza Inn, Rancho del Zocalo and Pacific Wharf Cafe.

As a fellow WDW vet, the main difference is there just are not the same amount of restaurants...not even close, so it's just not why people go to DL. It doesn't seem to be as much a part as the trip to DL as it is in WDW. I know when I'm planning a WDW vacation, where we are going to eat is a HUGE part of that, but it just wasn't like that at DL. You can't even make reservations six months out ;)

But I did do a lot of research and asked on here and these are where we ended up with our favorites. The pizza at Naples in DTD was also very good, too. But my gosh all the food was so expensive. I was sure missing our "free" dining plan.

I totally get what your saying! As a DW Vet myself, there is no comparison, but I LOVE DL too and have DL AP's this year. I want more food talk and pics too! Have you seen the Disneyfoodblog.com?

At DCA we at Carthe Circle, with was excellent! :thumbsup2

sorry no photos, but I would recommend it. Reservations are always good here.

Lots of favorites!

My list for Disneyland. :cool1:

One of my all time favorite salads from anywhere is the Aunt Polly's Vegetable Medley from River Belle Terrace. Lots of goodies on it. They also serve good carved sandwiches there.
Right outside their door is the Bengal BBQ which has yummy bacon wrapped asparagus.
My favorite table service is Cafe Orleans. Order the pomme frites, the famous Monte Cristo sandwich and beignets. They also have good salads and French onion soup. Be sure to share the Monte Cristo and frites. They are heavy, but oh so good.

Blue Bayou is great, but is pricey. great atmosphere!

The other sit-down restaurant is Carnation Cafe. Order their famous Loaded Bake Potato Soup along with good sandwiches.

The best corn dogs ever can be found on Mainstreet at the Red Wagon by the Plaza Inn. They really are the best corn dogs I have ever had.

One of my new favorite places to eat now is the Holly Jolly Bakery. I love their caprese sandwich and homemade potato chips.

My favorite sweets are the Apple Pie Caramel apple, the Matterhorn macaroon, their pumpkin muffin(Holiday seasonal) and the good ole Dole Whip.

For DCA, my list is way smaller, due to so many changes. I haven't been since everything has opened, so I'm excited to try the new places. Anyways, here are some of my favs there at the moment.

I love to order appetizers at the Cove Bar. All of them are really good. Lobster Nachos are one of my favs.

Taste Pilots Grill for good hamburgers.

Pacific Wharf for homemade bake sourdough bread bowls and chicken salad.

They have the same great corn dogs at Corn Dog Castle.

I've had the kabobs at Paradise Garden grill, and they are pretty good. Comes with sauces, rice and a tangy cucumber.

The World of Color dinner special that we had at Ariel's was one of the best meals we had ever had the Disneyland Resort. The princess breakfast was awesome also.

Off property.

Best dinner and service anywhere, bar none is the Napa Rose. Extremely pricey, but very very good. Located in the Grand Californian. Also located at the Grand is another favorite counter service as already mentioned, White Water Snacks. Love their nachos and breakfast.

Down the way is my all time favorite sit down restaurant, the Jazz Kitchen. Love the atmosphere and the food. Ask for a table on the balcony by the rails, or sit down stairs in the band room. Kind of noisy, but lots of fun! I love their chicken and we always have to order the flaming bananas foster! Quite exciting!

Last but certainly not least is my new favorite hot spot. Trader Sam's Bar and Tangaroa Terrace at the Disneyland Hotel. Love, love the atmosphere and love their pineapple cheeseburger and sweet potato fries! You need to step inside the bar and take a look. Just being in there makes me want to go to Hawaii! When customers order some of their special drinks, things happen. :cool1: So fun. If you sit outside, in the evenings they have live music. fYI, you can order anything from the next door Tangaroa Terrace, and they will deliver it over to the bar area. This place has become my must do for every trip.

There are lots of good restaurants in DTD and at the resorts. I still would like to try Steakhouse 55, as it gets really good reviews also.

Have fun! Oh and welcome to the DL boards! :welcome:

I have to agree with you! And I've never even been to WDW.;)

I started planning a family trip to WDW that never happened and I noticed a HUGE difference in planning for DL vs WDW. At WDW it was ALL about where our next meal was coming from. At DL it's more about the ambiance & the snacks/treats.:thumbsup2

For example, we like the Dole Whip Float (does WDW have this??), Tigger Tails & corn dogs from the Main St cart.

Sure, we have a list of restaurants we like, but really....we just like them. Nothing is too spectacular. It's much more about the ambiance & mood created at DL instead of the actual food.

For example, we LOVE eating at Rancho del Zocalo and try and snag a seat near BTMRR so DS can hear the ride as it zips along behind us. DS LOVES this!!! But the food itself is pretty standard American-Mexican fare. Don't get me wrong, it's good- just not AH-MAZING.;) We would be unlikely to eat here over & over again if it were in our neighborhood, KWIM?

So my advice as a DL vet is to research a few places or things you want to eat & then just go with the flow. IMO, that's the great thing about DL!

WDW vet here.

We did a one day at DL last year and walked into and sat down and dined wonderfully at Blue Bayou. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I dont agree with OP.

I love your food porn site. Next Saturday nite, I WILL BE at DL and hopefully will be able to post on the wonderful and fantastic food offerings.

As a pp said, I don't know of too many people who go to DL to eat at the sit downs. However, when we went to WDW for 10 nights, we researched the restraunts because WDW seemed more of a place for eating.

We are more of the treat eating people. We did do the corn dog the last trip and it was good. We normally eat at Rancho Del Zoccolo (?sp), Hungry Bear and Test Pilots Grill. Did not enjoy the chinese fast food in DCA. I do like the soups in the bread bowl but I think I will do what others have done and get it in a bowl and ask for the bread in a bag.

We were disappointed in the quality of food at WDW (we even paid for the deluxe dining plan) and very suprised that the differences!

The carver sandwiches at Riverbelle has to be our favorite CS. Not the typical greasy park food and we love sitting on the patio. :goodvibes

We also really enjoy Carnation Cafe, burgers at Taste Pilot, Pacific Warf, and outside the parks, the breakfast at Storytellers and dinner at Goofy's Kitchen. YUM!

We feel that WDW has wider variety (because it is bigger) and better quality of table service restaurants. We feel that DL has wider variety and better quality of counter service! So, I think for a WDW vet, it might mean adopting a new approach. Overall, we like DL food more than WDW because we don't like having alot of table service meals. However, we would move to Anaheim and never leave DL if it had Boma!

All of our favorites have been mentioned. I will add that Whitewater Snacks and Storyteller's in the Grand Californian are not much different than eating in the park because of the entrance from DCA to the hotel.
