What's the current wheelchair situation at WDW (for a 7 y/o)?

Our 7 y/o broke her leg, but will be in a boot by the time we get to WDW at the end of the month. As eager as she will be, there is no way she's going to be able to walk parks for several days, so we are keeping her wheelchair.

Is there anything we need to know, based on your experiences? I have never paid attention to how accessible the queues are...are there some where we will need to park it like a stroller and let her hop in the queue, or will we be rolling up to the ride in most cases? She will be able to transfer from chair to ride without an issue. Plenty of stroller experience, zero wheelchair experience at parks.

We've had an interesting year. Our son broke his hand the DAY we were headed to Orlando earlier this year, but luckily they gave him a waterproof cast, and we were on our way!

All lines and attractions are wheelchair accessible to the point of boarding.
There are a couple that have either a different entrance of different boarding area - only a couple though - most are accessible thru the same lines everyone else uses.
The CM at attractions will direct you if you need to do something else.

2 to be aware of - Tom Sawyer Island is not accessible (stairs, narrow spots, inaccessible bridges) and Tomorrowland Transit Authority has a step moving ramp (like asphalt escalator with no steps to get up and from the station.

My daughter can’t walk at all and we can almost always pull her wheelchair up to almost touching the ride car. Also - there are some attractions with wheelchair accessible ride cars/boats that you can use. Definitely use the one for Jungle Cruise so you don’t have to worry about getting onto the bobbing boat.

We found our son was happier with a knee scooter it was easier for him to move around. They can be rented for a reasonable rate.

I do see a lot of people at the parks using knee scooters.
I don’t know if they can be rented in a size that would fit a 7 year old??
How old was your son?

We are definitely considering a knee scooter, but not sure it will be practical yet. It was a nasty break and she will have been immobile for 8 weeks. May be a little squirrelly... thanks for the tip.

**edited to add, she has started scooting around the house on her butt, lol. We’ve tried crutches, but it’s just not time for them yet.

Just so you know - if you are traveling by air, a wheelchair flies for free and doesn’t count toward your baggage allowance.
