I'm going to WDW in June for the first time ever. I'm wondering what material of clothing is recommended for the summer time? I was told lose cotton is good. I know denim is out of the question. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Agree, I definitely wear fitness tops and bottoms in the parks. I wear UnderArmour heat gear shirts, but Nike Dri-Fit, etc would also be fine. I like tennis or golf skorts for bottoms. I'm a little old for running shorts, so the skorts are more flattering.

Ugh...Not cotton due to the humidity. It gets damp and clingy. Last August I wore workout gear every day and it was amazing!

I typically wear work out/dryfit type clothing to the parks but honestly sometimes they don't let your skin breathe very well, like a material such as cotton. I know that cotton doesn't dry quickly but sometimes it just feels lighter.

One time I went in June and it was over 100 degrees and extremely humid. My white cotton shorts held any type of moisture and were literally falling off me all day.

From then on, I buy "performance" materials. Quick dry material/hiking shorts from LL Bean/Eddie Bauer. That sort of thing.

Depends. I've found light cotton that dries pretty quickly and yes, the heavier stuff that never dries too. I'm not saying that it's easy to find but when I do I like it best.

The breathing is definitely an issue. Wicking material also seems to hold moisture differently, and trying to put running leggings back on in the bathroom is sometimes like putting on a wet swimsuit.

A lot of the time I have moisture wicking pieces rather than everything (which I know is what I said above)
Wearing even just a few pieces as the bottom layer (sports bra/underwear/shorts/tank top) with a cotton shirt/shorts/dress/whatever can help a lot.

I'm strange in that I can and do wear jeans year round. Once I made the switch to wicking bottom layers, denim became much more comfortable.
Same with shirts - I prefer thin sleeves to help block the sun, but still wear a cooling/wicking shirt under to help absorb anything.

One other thing to keep in mind is how the material will show sweat. Grey is always a dangerous color. But sometimes shirts that you never expected to be a problem are. And sometimes it's just certain colors. It can be hard to check for beforehand (splash a little bit of water on it and see what happens), but it's annoying to see a picture later and notice it after the fact.

Linen is my go-to. It wrinkles, but I don't really care.

I like lightweight gauzy loose sundresses. They breathe and don't cling to me which helps a lot.

Both of these. My DH loves linen shirts on cruises in the Caribbean, they breathe and don't cling in the heat. I live in sundresses, best if all they are casual but you can dress them up with accessories

I do sundresses in a poplin cotton, not unlike linen, but starchable. I exclusively wear full bottomed performance (moisture wicking) underpants, and I NEVER wear shoes which require socks in hot weather. No way. A wide brimmed straw(ish) sunhat, makes me SO much cooler. Like I often wonder what everyone is complaining about - and I've been on Memorial Day, Labor Day and 4th of July - all many times. The heat is just not that big of deal if you're prepared. Start hydrated!

Gym shorts are very common at Disney World, and jean shorts.

I know this is an older thread, but in the midst of this heatwave, getting tips for clothing for hot weather is always helpful. I’m a big fan of the brand Spunkwear. They have dresses, skirts, tops, etc and they’re made with bathing suit material. I’ve worn them at Disney and Universal and they’ve been great. Plus if you get wet on a water ride, they dry easily like a bathing suit.
My first encounter with these were at a lacrosse tournament. It was 105 in the shade with NO breeze. My cotton shirt, shorts and underthings were drenched and I was incredibly uncomfortable. I saw the dresses on sale at a vendor booth, bought one and changed right in the porta-potty. I was THAT desperate. They’re not cheap, but last along time and have been worth the cost. Especially on a hot, humid, sticky day.

My DH likes wearing Columbia fishing shirts (moisture wicking and ventilated).
I like to wear light dresses with athletic shorts underneath (prevents chafing, I am overweight so just wearing athletic clothing would be too revealing for me).
For shoes, I prefer a hiking sandal like Tevas (although I do need to remember to put sunscreen on the tops of my feet!)
