What's so great about YOUR state?

Speaking of A&M.....that reminds me.

We are the one of the few states that I know of that has a musical named after it (Best Little *****house in Texas)! :teeth: I've seen that show several times and love the movie version with Dolly Parton and Burt Reynolds. :)

TOV

Texas has had more than a few movies filmed here(even a little movie here in taylor country)

New York, the Empire State. New York City, the Big Apple. is it really fair for one state to have "the greatest city in the World", the famed Yankees, AND such other wonders as Niagara Falls, Lake Champlain, the Adirondack Mountains...?

Yeah. Everything she said.:D

Sunrises over the Green Mountains.

Sunsets over Lake Champlain.

Moose, deer, coyotes, bear, rabbits, ducks, geese, etc, etc, etc.

Fall Foliage, oh the colors!

Bed and Breakfast get aways.

MAPLE SYRUP!!!

How about the Indy 500? (though I'm not a fan)
How about the beautiful seasons we enjoy?
How about the fact that we are our Nations Bread Basket?
We can lay claim to many firsts, like television, and refridgeration.

It disturbs me when people can't find one good thing about Indiana. It is a fine state. I was not born or raised here, but even I have got lots of nice things to say about my little Indiana.

Ever been down south to the Wyandott or Marengo caves? Georgeous!

Don't forget the craftsmen that still take pride in their work, like the Amish.

What makes our state great? The same thing that makes out Country great- It's people!

I wish I knew more about Indiana. I've only lived here 3 years, and I've learned more about her than I ever learned about my native Michigan, in all my 40 years.

Look harder Lewski. I'm sure you can find something to celebrate about Indiana. Though it could be living so close to THAT school, that is causing all the trouble! ;)

tlGOBLUE!!!!

And don't for get everything is bigger in Texas even the people. LOL! Didn't we rate way up there on the fat list.

I'm a native Texan and wouldn't want to live anywhere else but snow would be nice once every 5 yrs maybe. :p

MMMM!!!! Canadian beer. That is something I don't like about Indiana. Here, Canadian beer is considered "imported," and is priced accordingly! In Michigan, it was the same price as most domestics. Oh well, no mattter. We don't have bottle deposits (nor an overwhelming litter problem ;) ), and we don't have the alcohol taxes of other states, so it winds up bieng about a push.

Keep the Faith!

I live in Hawaii, and on our island, it is :sunny: all year long, but during the winter, we can go to the mountains to play in the snow and then an hour or so after go to the beach and get a tan.

Texas also has Tex-Mex and this is probably why we're so high on the list. ;)

Florida - the Sunshine State (most of the time). It is beautiful here today!

St. Augustine, the oldest city. The space center, Disney Cruise Line! WDW, beautiful beaches, the Keys, the southernmost point, the everglades, the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, fresh squeezed orange juice....:sunny:

PA

Besides being called the "Land of Taxes" and home of "no alcohol (except rubbing) outside of a PLCB store" we have tons of great stuff. For example:

116 state parks that offer camping, swimming, biking, boating, fishing and hiking

QVC located in West Chester

Hersheypark and Hersheyworld in -where else- Hershey

Fallingwater (Frank Lloyd Wright's famous house) near Pittsburgh

Crayola Crayons in Easton

Sesame Place in Langhorne and Idlewild in Ligonier

The Slinky (as in the toy) Factory in Hollidaysburg

of course, Philadelphia (Birthplace of Independence) and home to Iron Chef Morimoto's Restaurant

there's also

The Gettysburg National Military Park, "The Flagship Niagara" in Erie harbor (from the battle of 1812), the Horseshoe Curve and the Railroaders Museum both in Altoona

and think, you just got me started.... :teeth:

Orthopedic Capital (Warsaw)
Warsaw is also the home of Jason Jarretts ARCA car (thanks Dane Miller)
Indiana Dunes
Chain-O-Lakes State Park
Part of the Underground Railroad
Michigan City has a nice beach on Lake Michigan
Great shopping (Lighthouse Place, Fremont Outlets, Anderson Outlets, great malls in South Bend, Fort Wayne and Indy)
Great school systems

The bicycle was invented in CT.

The bicycle was invented in France.

We had the first elected woman governor.

Wyoming had the first elected woman governor, Nellie Tayloe Ross. Texas had elected Ma Ferguson, but Nellie was sworn in first.

The first college basketball and football games were played here.

The game of basketball was invented in Springfield, MA (probably why we have the Basketball Hall of Fame) and the first college basketball game was played in Iowa.

The first college football game was Rutgers vs. Princeton and it was played in New Jersey.

The frisbee and wiffleball were invented in CT.

Yes.

The submarine was invented in CT

The submarine dates as far back as 200 B.C. Connecticut had nothing to do with it. The first successful one was built by a dutchman in 1578.

and the first submarine sandwich was served here in 1926

The submarine sandwich began in Italy as a meat and cheese sandwich and the concept was brought to this country by Italians.

...but they weren't named "subs" until WWII when the soldiers from the Groton submarine base ordered them by the thousands.

The man who named the sandwich a Submarine was Dominic Conti in New Jersey. He saw a submarine put on display in westside park and remarked that it looked just like his sandwich.

People living in Connecticut are sometimes referred to as being Nutmeggers or Connecticuter's, or Connecticocian's or even Connecticutensian's! Who can top that last one?!

We are close to NYC, Boston, beautiful mountains, beaches & lakes.

We are a small state, which I like.

Yes.

I love CT. I lived there for several years, it is a beautiful place and full of many memories for me. I don't know where you got your information from, but you need a new teacher

:hyper:

Oregon.......agricultural dream! Lots of lush landscape- very large exporter of berries (if you ever see a marionberry at the store- BUY IT- they are a hybrid berry here from Oregon and they are to die for!!!!), hazelnuts, dahlias

Ocean and mountains, plus Crater Lake! Beautiful coastline. SALMON

Home of Nike & Columbia Sportswear; Adidas also has a headquarters here in Portland

Home of Hollywood Video (I'm not sure this is something to brag about though)

NO SALES TAX

End of the Oregon Trail

Multomah Falls (I think this is the 2nd tallest waterfall in the US behind the falls at Yosemite)

For being so far north, we actually have incredibly mild weather compared to other states the we are parallel to across the US. Snowfall (I'm talking Portland OR here) happens maybe once or twice a year, but then melts within a day or two. Average winter temps in the low 40's during the day. Not too terrible.

I'm sure there is more....I'm really a California native, so I could probably blather on about that state a little more (HELLO!!! DISNEYLAND! )

New York,

It's full of honest, serious, loyal people who speak what they mean and mean what they say. It's big and comfortable and it's HOME.

In other words, it's the complete OPPOSITE of Georgia....
