I got the information from the State of Connecticut website and I would assume they would know what they are talking about...but thanks so much for calling attention to all of the mistakes. I assure you they were unintentional. (I did misread the fact that the first AMERICAN bicycle was made in CT and that the first elected female governor was FROM CT.)

We have the four seasons, mountains on one side, the ocean on the other. Paramount's King's Dominion and Busch Gardens Williamsburg theme parks. Lots of historical landmarks, great food and friendly people (most of the time!) I love the fact that I can be in the middle of all the action, and within a few minutes be in beautiful rolling countryside!

Some other interesting facts about Virginia:

Meriwether Lewis (1774 - 1809) and William Clark (1770 - 1838) Led a famous expedition to the Pacific ocean; both born in Virginia.

Edgar Allen Poe (1809 - 1849) Author of works such as The Tell-Tale Heart and The Fall of the House of Usher; lived in Richmond.

Warren Beatty (1937 - ) Director, actor, producer, writer; born in Richmond.

Roy Clark (1933 - ) Country music artist; born in Meherrin.

James E. West (1931 - ) Inventor of the Foil Electret Microphone; born in Prince Edward County.

Arthur Ashe (1943 - 1993) Famous tennis player; born in Richmond, and the first African-American male to win Wimbledon.

Ella Fitzgerald (1917 - 1996) Jazz singer; born in Newport News.

Booker T. Washington (1856 - 1915) African-American educator and founder of Tuskegee Institute; born on a small farm in the Virginia backcountry.
