NEW YORK -- David Ortiz had gotten his pitch and mauled it to deep right. Then, he got caught up in the moment. The big slugger flipped his bat emphatically to the side and did a bit of a pirouette, before savoring his trot around the bases.
His two-run blast in the fifth put the Red Sox five runs ahead of the Yankees in what wound up a 6-4 victory.
Though Yankees manager Joe Girardi was not a fan of Ortiz's bat flip, it was very much a symbol of the swagger the slugger is feeling these days.
ummm i'm not saying this just because i don't like the yankees, i respect joe girardi, but come on bro, lighten up.. i watched it and he just threw his bat and turned around and started running.. he'd do that anywhere, don't take it personally
