Lady Capulet is important to the play “Romeo And Juliet” because she is constantly pressuring Juliet to marry. This begins in the first act when she says “Younger than you, here in Verona, ladies of esteem are made already mothers.” (1.3.69-71) in attempt to convince her to marry. The only time that she makes an appearance in the play is to do this. Her only purpose seems to be to attempt to convince Juliet to marry Paris. I think that one of the reasons that Juliet married Romeo is due to the fact that Lady Capulet made marriage sound so appealing with her pleading for Juliet to marry. If Lady Capulet had not been in the play, I don’t believe that it would have ended with both of the children dead. In fact, I think that they would have never fallen in love without her influence on Juliet.

My opinion on Lady Capulet is that she is unhappy with her life. She seems to have married young and desires to experience all that she had missed out on through Juliet. And although she doesn’t spend much time with her, I think that she really cares about Juliet. Her main purpose seems to be Juliet. I believe that the fact that she and Juliet aren’t close has is normal, however many perceive it as meaning that Lady Capulet is not a good mother. Many people this, but her reaction when she thinks Juliet is dead, “Revive, look up, or I will die with thee!” (4.5.20), begs to differ. I think that she is just misunderstood and if people took a closer look at her they would realize that she is doing the best that she can.

· “I beg for justice, which thou, prince, must give. Romeo slew Tybalt; Romeo must not live.” (3.1.176-177) This fascinates me because it reminds me of a quote from the Bible, “An eye for an eye.”. Romeo killed Tybalt, therefore, he must die.

· “The County Paris, at Saint Peter’s Church, Shall happily make thee there a joyful bride.” (3.5.115-116) I feel like Lady Capulet is dreaming of becoming a joyful bride herself and as if she is unhappy with her own marriage.

· “Accursed, unhappy, wretched, hateful day! Most miserable hour that time e’er time saw.” (4.5.43-44) I like this quote because, although it was sad, I felt as though it captured a mother’s love for her child.
