Hey guys! My family & I have never eaten at 'Ohana. We always go to Kona Cafe on every trip and love it. We also love Captian Cooks for a good snack. We were interested in trying 'Ohana on our upcoming trip, but we were concerned on the whole 'family style' setting. Can anyone please help me out and give me some idea on how the table is set and the food is served? The thought of sharing/passing around bowls of food with strangers doesn't seem appitizing to me :sad2:

Ohana is very nice. You sit at your table and there are no strangers with you. Just your party. They bring the food to you and you share with your family. You take what you want and put it in your own dish to eat.
It's nice atmosphere and great service. We didn't like the food. It was smoked food. But hey that was us.

You don't pass around bowls to strangers. You don't even sit with strangers. You sit at a big round table (or little rectangular table depending on party size) with your party. The server brings over skewers of chicken, pork, shrimp and beef. She/he removes the meat from the skewer, into a bowl. You just have to pick what you want from the bowl. So, you have to share the bowl with your own party, not with other tables.

The dessert makes the meal well worth while. And, of all the meats, I enjoyed everything but the beef, it was dry and tough. Otherwise, the meats were very good.

I second what the first two posters said.

Love it! It's a must do for us on every trip! The atmosphere is fun and the food is great! I highly recommend it!

I do not think I need to add anything aout OHANA.. it is nice and the food is good and it has entertainment.
But if you like the food and service of KONA I would go there. The food at KONA is much better and the service is amazing most of the time great others....
In other words if entertainment is more important got to OHANA if food is go to KONA

I agree 110 % :thumbsup2

In a word "Awesome!"

We eat there our first night coordinating the reservation with Wishes. Music piped in, fireworks over the castle, awesome food, great atmosphere, activites for kids. Can't wait to eat there in exactly 1 month!!!!

One of our must dos! I love the food (when meat not over cooked) and I love the views, the ambiance b/c I just LOVE the Poly! There isnt one thing at this meal I dont like from the stir fry veggies, potstickers, noodles, wings, grilled meat and dessert! YUM!

Wheather we stay at the Poly or not (we normally do), we always go to 'Ohana for dinner and breakfast. My dinner at 'Ohana is one of the highlights of my trip... I enjoy Kona too.

So you think the Kona was as good as Ohana's food? Do they serve that banana bread/ice cream dessert? If so, I might give up my 8:20pm ressie at Ohana for Kona. We've always liked breakfast at Kona.

:lovestruc Ohana, it's a must do for us. The wings, shrimp, and dessert are fab, definitely worth the trip.

My family didn't care for Ohana, maybe we went on a bad night. But a lot of others really enjoy it.

It is our favorite place to eat. We have never had a bad meal or bad service there. Great atmosphere too. The kids loved the games and dances that they did. It is a MUST for us.

I too am going for the first time in 1 month -- have seen somewhere posted before better areas to sit so kids can partake in activities. Can someone help OP and myself out with any advice on seating placement. Thanks!!

Are there any other desserts besides the pineapple/coconut bread pudding?

We love Kona and go every trip, but you cannot replace 'Ohana with Kona. The Bread Pudding is not available at Kona and as we all know it is the best dessert at WDW.:worship:

Actually, some posters have been able to get the bread pudding when eating at Kona just by asking. If the kitchen thinks they will have enough to cover the 'Ohana diners, they will let you have some.
