whats oct half term like ?

Best to ask at school about holiday policies. As I have mentioned before, we have a borough wide policy, Council ordained, that no more than ten days term time leave may be allowed during the whole time a child is at primary school.
thanks for that - but have a feeling that ours is sumthin like 10 days per year, but of course its done on points and if child has been off sick too much it counts against them (am thinking of dosing ds1 up all winter so he has no days off!!! at least hes already had cp so wont have to have time off for that lol)

we wud take ds1 out of school, but seeing as we did it in december, not sure if we could do it in october??? (anyone know how the school policy on holidays works?? is it based on each school year - sept-sept, or based on so many terms before??)

School policy in England and Wales, as I understand it, varies from education authority and school to school. My DD's school has a blanket policy - they are perfectly happy to allow up to 10 days holidays in term time, in a school year (in her school, this runs from September to September). The only exception to this is if the child is sitting their SATs, when they usually don't allow any termtime holidays during the SATs period, or in the half term up to that point.

As we usually have 3 days per visit at DLRP, this in effect means I could, if we could afford it ;) , take her on 3 visits in one school year, in term time, with absolutely no issue from her school.

Hi Rachie B, sorry if i am late responding you:goodvibes
As you already know we were there last year from Oct. 29th to Nov 1st.
I have read many rewies about this time od the year being very very busy, not to talk about the Halloween Soiree but -maybe juts because we were expecting the worst - we had a great time and enjoyed every single moment.
Of course we had to plan a bit and used a lot Fast Pass ( i had bought on Ebay some of the *unlimeted ones* too ) but we managed to do everything we wanted when we wanted (but Crush that had an horrible 70 minutes queue BEFORE it opened the first time we tried it and so we had to try again the next day ;) )
As said before the Parks were busy but we did not experience anything bad but the *normal* queue jumpers and nasty people that you can find anywhere anytime.
I would raccomend Hallowen for the decorations and atmosphere and the Halloween Soiree was really a magic moment with lots of fun and great animation.
If you go dont forget to bring fancy dresses, we just wore wigs and painted our faces but if we will go back sometimes i will buy a *proper* fancy dress :yay:

thanks again elaine!! urs sounds a bit like ours i think, and dont think ds1 has sats for a while..... i hope ;)

we have used 5 days this year, but obviously arent intending to take any more hols..... unless my numbers come up;) but for that to happen id have to be buying a ticket!!:rotfl:

thanks cap'n and Giuly :)

hmm fancy dress ,wonder if i could persuade hubby :confused3 :rotfl:

When we went to the Halloween Soiree, it was just the two of us (pre kids). Halloween was so busy, we enjoyed a long lunch with wine at the Silver Spur, a shave and a hair cut at the barbers. Back to the hotel for the afternoon :goodvibes, a shower, and then into costume.

My wife and I had a wonderful time and were spoilt. I dressed as the Phantom, and she as my bride Melonie. WE waltzed in the gazebo on Main Street (loads of people took pics). We had cast members asking for pics on their mobiles. And the best part, we were asked to be a part of Phantom Manor that evening.

We enjoyed it, but it was our 9th trip that year. If it is a once a year for your family and you are going with little ones, well all I can say is you are braver than us.

Congratulations Rachie. And thanks to your PM we got our Sun Holiday booked today too! 7 nights at Le Chenn Gris from 11-18th May 2009 and only £77 for the 4 of us!!I love the Sun Holidays!! I'm now going to make a paper application for October and hope they don't notice that I've got two holidays (although I can't find anything that says you can't apply for more than one holiday)

how do u get these sun holidasy?? do u have to buy the paper to get the tokens - or can u do it online???

at those prices, i cud try and get another holiday in sumwhere!!

the first time you book one, you do have to collect the tokens and post them off

but once you have previously booked one, then you should in future receive a priority booking number

which enables you to book online,so you can choose straight away what date / park you get :)

with the postal method its a waiting game ! but we have always gotten something, even if not first choices though

have a look here for more info : http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/travel/sunholidays/article2062291.ece
HTH
