What's going on behind BC/BCV ?

So during our stay at BCV, we frequently used the paths behind the resort that lead from the BCV quiet pool directly to the path to Epcot. We noticed that a lot of the trees and greenery seems to have been cut down in some places. Is there something going on back there or is it just standard maintenance?

When we were there in late January, we saw a number of trees down back there (bigger ones), but they weren't cut down, but fell down. I assumed it was from a storm. So they may just be clearing out unhealthy trees if there's more cut down back there.
