Laura--Empire Falls is based on the town I live in......yep a defunct Mill Town, the mill is less then a mile from my neighborhood...this is also where the movie was filmed---Paul Newman right in our little home town...........

That is so cool. I haven't seen the movie, but I enjoyed the book a lot. I hope Ross feels better soon and can compete tomorrow.

This morning I combined some mango nectar, lime juice, and vodka, and put it in the freezer. I am hoping it will freeze solid and that I will be able to scrape it into crystals and pile it in martini glasses--kid of like a sorbet, or a granita. I don't know if it is going to work but I'll keep you posted!

I didn't think vodka would freeze. :confused3 I used to store vodka in my freezer for when my FIL would visit. It never froze. Maybe it will with the juices in it though.

Aimee -- I hope you are feeling better today.

Lauren -- I was really surprised about Michael Johns too. Like Kathy said, America got it wrong this week. (I thought the show was going pretty much the way it should before this.) I am glad you are feeling better.

Sheryl -- I've heard good things about Ella Enchanted. That is on my list to see. I hope Alexis is improved today.

The salmon was a big hit last night, so I am thinking fish again tonight. I have a couple ripe mangoes, so I'll make a mango salsa to go with it. Hmm...this sounds like fish tacos in the making. :thumbsup2

ETA: Have a great time Glynis!

Glynis, Have a wonderful time and enjoy the rest of your time with your Mom...Glad you had a nice visit! :)

Hi Everyone! Nan is home and resting in bed. Everything went well and she did not have to stay in recovery very long! She will check in with the laptop later today.

Thanks so much, can't wait to hear from her, but don't let her do too much too soon. So glad everything went smoothly.

I believe this is in the old thread...these are found on the creative boards and I even think its the first recipe that Lindsay ever shared so it should be in the first thread. Does this make sense? I am in a rush can you tell? ;)

ETA: It should be in this thread...

Thank you so much! I really need to get some dishes done on Sunday so we can eat better next week -- we have way too many soccer/baseball games. Good luck with the fundraiser!

Glad I checked in when I did.....I see we have our Nancy update...I am glad to hear she is home and doing well, she has been on my mind all morning. Like Kat, I can't wait to hear from her, but I do NOT want her to over due...

Ross feels and sounds awful, but he still has his appetite, lol, typical boy...he has requested bourban glazed salmon with wild rice and corn. I will make a more daring veggie for myself.
Ross sends thanks for all the feel better wishes sent his way,:)

Lauren--Phew...take a deep breath girl.......my head is spinning just reading your day planned.

Laura-- I didn't think vodka would freeze either, I keep a bottle in our freezer as well for myself, but like you said maybe with the juices it will, in any case Becky will have a nice cold after work cocktail waiting for her!!!
The movie Empire Falls is actually really good and stays quite true to the book, I am sure it is due to Richard Russo being on set every moment, and it being filmed where it really is taken from, not some lot in Hollywood. The bars, diners, churches, mills etc are the exact ones that are mentioned in the book.

Kathy--I too am a bit grumpy on the whole AI results last night....totally off!!
Ross and myself are soo excited to hear how great Sammie is doing!!

Sheryl--I am glad you have a day for yourself, try to get some rest so you don't come down with whatever Alexis has.

Laura, On the vodka, if Becky's drink mix doesn't have too much vodka in it, it will freeze to a granita-like consistency. When we have summer get-togethers I'll make a few blenders of different drinks & freeze them in a zip-loc bag.

We watched Disney's Enchanted with the dancing roaches & rats. Ewww, other than that scene, I really enjoyed it.

I'm upset about Michael John's too! I really thought he would be in there until the end!

Aimee, I hope you're feeling better too!

Lauren, Glad you are feeling better!

Yeaaaah! I hope she sleeps & takes it super easy for a couple of days!

I forgot to tell you all that you will get very ODD looks if you ever go to a fabric store and ask for enough muslin to wrap a 10 yo boy up like a mummy.......that is all I am saying.....

*the answer is 6 yards so you have enough to leave hanging.......

My mom is a true Croc lover! She wears them everywhere! Even to church. Her doctors love them, as they are perfect for diabetics! We bought her a new pair of black ones, plus some Mammoths to wear around the house and at the dialysis center!

Me too! I usually only wear Crocs, even to work, and when I have to wear a differant kind of shoe they bug the heck out of me.

This is my notice that my family and I will be out of town until Wednesday night. It's spring break here, and we're taking my mom home, and then going to tour some of the national parks in our state. Our kids have never done that, and we have some gorgeous places here! I'll try to remember to take some pictures for y'all!

Have fun!

It's a really good movie.

I missed your post earlier. Sorry Ross is still feeling so bad! But is appetite sure is great!

What is so strange about that :confused3 Someone in my house was a pirate one year. I searched high and low for a white pirate shirt. I gave up and the person wore one of mine. SHHHHH don't tell, he still thinks it was a pirate shirt. :rolleyes1

I'm so glad Nancy is doing well and is home.

Becky, Even if your concoction does not freeze, it sure does sound good. Between the drinks you make (food too) and Laura's having cocktails with the neighbors, I want to be a "Liam Sister"!!! :rotfl:

If you like pork, try that Cajun Pork Roast...its even better the next day so I am sure you could make it on the weekend and have it another night...probably be great on a sandwich too.

Thanks for the luck!

I was looked at strange today too...I just had to go to a tractor trailer repair shop for an errand...don't ask, but I guess they don't get too many women in there! ;)

:rotfl: I once bought someone in my house sneakers that were girls because they were on clearance (They didn't even look like girls). Well, one of the girls at school pointed that out and I played it off that she was nuts...it worked and he still wore them. Can't get away with that now. Its gotta be Tony Hawk sneaks now! :confused3

:rotfl: I am glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read this. It would be on the screen.

Sounds like I will have to check out that movie. Thanks, Wendie! Maybe after your great dinner, Ross will feel better. You know that they say to feed a cold.

Marisa -- Thanks for the update on Nancy! I'm glad everything went well.

Sheryl -- I hope you are right about Becky's drink. I'm sure she didn't put very much vodka in it. Half the time she makes the drinks, has one sip, and gives the rest to her DH.

Lauren -- You're welcome to come visit!

I found out today that my fish market is open again. :yay: I got some haddock, so I am going to fry that up (the kids will love me...) and I'll make the mango salsa, curried sweet potatoes (but I'm going to cheat and put the flavorings on frozen sweet potato fries. I don't know if that will work, but I'll let you know) and a salad. I may even make some sangria. It's not nice here today like yesterday, but I am pretending it is.

ETA: Great picture of Kyle, Kathy!

I meant to ask yesterday -- was there much damage on your side of DFW? We had lots of wind, tree limbs down, a huge batting hit-back net blown over and moved 10 feet from where it started out, but not significant damage and we didn't lose power. So many people in Plano and Fort Worth are still out of power this morning. :sad2:

We didn't have any issues here, we didn't even lose power like the night (or two?) before! It sounded like it could have been much worse...

I have the chicken recipe saved:

Ritz Parmesan Chicken

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (I remove all the extra fat)
1/2 cup grated Parm cheese (pizza cheese)
1 1/2 "rolls" Ritz crackers, crushed (you can also use the low-fat ones)
1 stick melted butter

Preheat oven to 350.

Combine the cheese and Ritz crackers in a bowl. Dip the chicken in the butter, then coat well in the cheese-cracker mix. Place in a 9x13 casserole dish that has been sprayed with Pam (or whatever you use). I sprinkle what is left of the crackers on top of the chicken. I usually cover this in foil because your crackers can burn if you aren't careful. Bake for about 30 minutes or until chicken is done

Thanks for checking in, I'm so glad things went well.

Tonight I may do the citrus chicken.

TV ALERT!!!!!

There's a NEW Disney show on the Travel channel tonight at 9E/8C time - Samantha Brown's Disney Favorites!!!:goodvibes

Kathy -- The sweet potato fries did work with the curry flavorings. I decreased the butter by a lot -- I think I used about 2 tbsps, and I probably could have used even less -- but I kept the curry and salt the same. I cooked the fries according to the package directions. I would do it again.

Here's a pic of dinner: Fried haddock, mango salsa, curried sweet potato fries and chipotle sauce.
