No, not at all. I actually find this fascinating. Isn't it amazing how much a delivery of a story can impact you? I remember one of my professors in college, his specialty was Beowulf. Every year, at the end of the semester, he would invite the best students to watch him perform parts of it in the original Old English, which is just nothing like our current language. But, because of his facial expressions, gestures, and vocal tone, we were able to follow the story. If anything, it was more frightening!
When Laura and I lived together, we used to do this also. We called it "The Game." We had all of our essays, poems, etc. that we owned catalouged and their names stuck inside a tin. You'd pull the name of a work and have read it out loud. We actually graded each other on our delivery. Ideally, you had to have it memorized, and points counted for gestures, realism, and emotion.
OK, Laura, I have officially outed us as geeks!![]()
Very cool! I took a semester course on Beowulf, and had to read it in Old English. Not an easy thing, but really cool!
If you ever have a chance to hear a professional storyteller, do it! It's amazing how they can draw you in and paint such wonderful pictures with their words!
