Well my girl was in a good mood yesterday & we made fettucine noodles & ravioli!!! The kitchen was a disaster but they turned out great & we had fun! She's been saying that she wants to be an Iron Chef when she grows up! :cutie:

Here's lots of pics for y'all of her making pasta & ravioli. And pics of the finished meals.

The MINI Iron Chef brushing the eggwash on the ravioli.

Proud of her fettucine noodles!

Enjoying the fruits of her labor with her requested "fancy" drink.

The finished ravioli. I made a kale-ricotta filling & topped it with a spinach pesto.

Sheryl, those are precious pictures. I think she looks like you. I don't know why I've never noticed it before. And BTW, she should be proud of her finished labors. She's done something I've never had the guts to try and make myself.

Thanks! If only I was that cute! :cutie:

Glynis -- You are a very generous SIL. I don't know when Beck will pop on here, but her cheese bread is just a loaf of Italian bread, sliced in half. Then she pours melted butter over both halves, sprinkles them with granulated garlic, and then tops with sliced fresh mozzarella. I think she might also add some grated parmesan. The bread gets baked until the cheese is brown and bubbly.

Sheryl -- I love the pictures of Alexis! She is adorable. And I agree with Gretchen, she does look a lot like you.

PrincessaC -- Thanks for posting the eggroll recipe. I like veggie eggrolls, but when DH is home, he will love this.

Speaking of eggrolls...I think I am having an Asian-themed meal tonight like Beck. I am definitely making baby bok choy, but I'm not sure what else. I am feeling less stressed today, so thanks. :thumbsup2

Laura, Glad you are feeling better! :goodvibes Sorry about the car. I can't believe the kids thought the mac & cheese was too cheesy! Is there such a thing as too cheesy? ;)

Glynis, You are an angel! :worship: I'm worn out just reading about it. Good luck with your kid-friendly dinner. I hope no one ends up sleeping on the table!

Sheryl - Great pics of your princess!:goodvibes

I'm OK. I think not having a Disney trip planned has me even more depressed.:sad2:

Hey what about my ravioli?!:confused3 I know she's cute but aren't you impressed with our cooking skills?

Sorry that you're feeling down. I think you should start planning a trip now. And saving your pennies for that trip, cus I know your ADR's are gonna be costly!

I'm sorry, I'm VERY impressed. That's something I've yet dared to do!:thumbsup2

Unfortunately college and a new vehicle for me are ahead of a vacation. After we sell my parents house I'll have a better feel for when a vacation can be afforded.

Oh Kathy, I didn't realize you hadn't sold it yet? Have you had it listed & it's not selling? Or was it just too hard to handle getting it ready?

I don't know how generous I am. She watched my kids a year ago so I could do the half marathon at WDW, so I kind of owe her. At least now that debt will be settled!!! I wouldn't mind so much, but her kids are real pains! They have no respect for other people's property. I babysat the 2 youngest once while SIL was at a PTA meeting, and they took black crayons and WROTE ON EVERY WALL IN MY HOUSE!!!! I was livid! Of course it happened while DH was watching them and I was at bowling. When SIL and BIL found out all they did was laugh and say, "well, now you know why our house looks the way it does!" I made DH bring both little ones back to my house and scrub the walls until they were clean! If it had been my kids that had done that, I would have taken them to clean it off, and I would have had a whole lot of other consequences as well! These kids have no discipline until they come to my house. Should be a long weekend!

Thanks for the recipe for the bread! I think they'll like that with the spaghetti!

OH BOY! Authentic Filipino Egg Roll!!! Thanks for posting this and yes it does make sense! Sometimes the old family dishes are the hardest to try & write the recipe down.
Tell me about it. :3dglasses

How cute!! It's so fun to cook with the kids even tho they do trash up the kitchen. :lmao:

The ravioli looks delicious.

Nice pasta, Sheryl! (And cute kid too  )

Glynis, Laura covered the bread question...that's how I make it. Good luck with the babysitting! It sounds like you are going to have your hands full.

:scared1: It sounds like you are in for a worse weekend than I had previously imagined (and imagining four additional children in my house was pretty bad). I have to agree with Sheryl, you are an angel! I wish you strength, luck and grace so we won't be reading about you in the paper Monday!

Thanks again for working at getting the recipe down on paper! :goodvibes I'll probably try it next week! Do you usually fry or bake them?

We are going to trash the kitchen again today! She kept wanting to turn the pasta dough into pizza. So today we will be making pizzas. I have to run out & get the child pepperoni for her pizza. She can't have pizza without her pepperoni's!

Nice pasta, Sheryl! (And cute kid too  )

:rotfl: :rotfl2: We turn out nice food in this family! And who knew we have cute kids too!

Your welcome. I usually fry them in a little bit of vegetble oil. I don't like to deep fry them because they absorb so much oil :scared:

Oh pizza!!! What time is dinner? :lmao:

I'm making spaghetti with garlic bread. Something fast and simple. I'm being lazy.

My Dad had 80 years of stuff in that house, still clearing some out. We had to rip up the carpets and re-do the floors, paint every inch and we're just now ready to think about showing it. We've had tons of calls so I don't think it'll be too long now.

Hi everyone! I'm in Atlanta at an incredible conference - heard Jimmy Carter speak tonight.

I am so jealous of you. I admire that man so much and would love to hear him speak some day. Have fun!

We had some wild weather Tuesday night we had so much wind blowing the snow around I could see anything outside.

Wendie I remember lots of times of reaching for the phone after my dad passed. Give it time, you will have good days and bad. I hope you have more good days than bad.

Janice- I saw that you folks were in for some wicked weather!

I used to "call" my Mom too. It was weird. My sister managed her check book for her so she continued to after she passed. She told me that she searched all over looking for a new book of checks, she was at her house, and then she went into the living room asking Mom where she had put them.

Sorry-I am poking my nose in here too;)

Please join right in!

SHRIMP AND WILD RICE CASSEROLE
Paula Deen

This look s so good! I don't eat shrimp so I really never know what to do with them. The last time I cooked them I made a lo mein kind of thing and ..........almost killed my Son IL :scared:. I did not know to take the tails off and stirred the shrimp in. SIL was eating, somehow one of the stray tails that managed to fall off while cooking got lodged in his throat.......he turns purple, hacking like my cat.............I start to laugh..............DD starts to laugh...............he is NOT laughing, ( He is still sounding like my cat) he is choking and manages to save himself...we are all useless. He will not touch anything that has shrimp in it if I have cooked it :confused3. I told him I was sorry but he can't get past a little humor at his expense. Oh well...

Wendie -- You did a great job on your mom's obit. I am sure she is proud.

I feel bad complaining, since so many other people are dealing with worse issues,
but I am completely grumpy and stressed tonight. I need more wine to go with my whine. ;)

Oh laura, with the amount of whining I do here you have a long way to go before you need to feel badly. Come here and complain, as Glynis says, I admire you so much for how you keep your home together while your husband serves so far away. You are really a hero here!

DH and I are babysitting 4 of my SIL's 7 children for the next 3 days,

Good news is that these kids are scared spitless of me, and will work to repair my home!
:scared1::scared1::scared1: Good thing they are scared of you! No veggies in their home???????

Well my girl was in a good mood yesterday & we made fettucine noodles & ravioli!!!

Oh my goodness, Sheryl! She is a Doll! That dimple would have my DH eating right out of her floury little hand and her blue eyes are the frosting on her cake! She does look like you.

:scared1::scared1::scared1: Good thing they are scared of you! No veggies in their home???????

Well, do you consider ketchup a vegetable?

I loved your shrimp story! I remember one Christmas I made my dad's famous clam dip, and we were sitting around playing games and snacking. My cousin and her husband came to visit, and they joined in. Well, Kenny begins eating the dip, complimenting me on how good it is. After a couple of minutes, he starts coughing and asks what's in it. I told him, cream cheese, garlic powder, onion and clams. His eyes got big and he starts screaming, "I'm allergic to shellfish!" Lori had to take him to the hospital right away. It was scary, but kind of funny that he would stuff his face without asking what was in the dip!

I know how you feel. Marisa wants to take Kady this summer and have my sisters girls join us. I have tried every way I can and I cannot find any way to make the numbers work. We would not even be thinking of November if I had not set some money from my Mom's house aside for something for the kids.

Kathy- We finally sold my Mom's house and I never want to clean like that again. My brother and SIL wanted to put a lot of work and money into it but honestly, I was not up to it. She was there for over 50 years and even though my brother and I went through the attic and the cellar about 20 years before both filled up again. It's funny, for my brother having it sold is hard, although he married the girl next door so he has to go by a lot, my sister and I felt as though we had finished a chapter. Not sad, really. Just lighter. It is hard to explain.

They have no respect for other people's property. I babysat the 2 youngest once while SIL was at a PTA meeting, and they took black crayons and WROTE ON EVERY WALL IN MY HOUSE!!!! I was livid! Of course it happened while DH was watching them and I was at bowling. When SIL and BIL found out all they did was laugh and say, "well, now you know why our house looks the way it does!"

I cannot believe that your IL's thought that "decorating" your home was cute! I admire that you made them come back and clean it.

:rotfl::rotfl2: We turn out nice food in this family! And who knew we have cute kids too!

You sure do..........have good food and a cute kid! I bet she says you are one awesome Nana!

Well, I think I am done slaving over papers and spreadsheets for the day. My computer crashed this year and I lost some work.....don't tell Buddy. He is all antsy because I am not done yet......was a little "critical" and I was huffy parked at the computer. He felt bad, broke out a bottle of wine and now I am done with everything.......2 glasses of wine and I am DIS'in and he is snoozin' in front of the fireplace;)

I think I should annoy him more often:idea:, I'll never have to finish this.....

Actually, I need everything done by the weekend, I thought I could use last years figures for the census but I need this years. I might as well get my tax stuff completed too and send it all in.

Afternoon all--

Just wanted to pop in and thank everyone again for their prayers and thoughts, especially our new members. It is pretty easy to see that food is jut part of this group, food is what brought us together, but friendship is what keeps us here, I am sure that has been pretty easy to pick up on though.

Laura-- I am glad to hear you are feeling a bit better with things today, I can only imagine how overwhelming things must get while doing it on your own. You are an amazing mother and wife!! I think we as a society tend to forget to thank the families of our soldiers at times, you are making just as big of a sacrifice as dh is for all of us Americans. From the bottom of my heart Thank You! I am only 3hrs away, if there is anything I can ever do to lend a hand please let me know, you can always PM!!

Sheryl--I haven't found much to smile about in the past few weeks, but those pictures of Alexis sure did the trick.....she should be so proud of her noodles!! She is adorable...and she does look so much like yourself!! With those dimples the boys will be fighting over her someday!!
Kudos to your noodles as well.;)

Glynis--I don't even know where to begin.....you and your sister are soooo even after this weekend that is for sure......I think she might even be back to owing you, lol. I am still stunned on the reaction to the crayoned walls....never mind the vegetable issue.....eeeek!!

Aimee--I hope you are having a wonderful time, you do deserve it with all the drama that is going on back home for you....I remember when I was around 11 our church had some major major issues and drama and it split the church right down the middle and my family was one of the ones that walked out. I still can see the pain on the adults faces of it all. I pray that it all smooths over quickly for all of you. Enjoy your time in GA. and like Nancy I too am jealous you were able to hear Jimmy Carter speak....that man is amazing!

Lauren--I hope you are doing ok after your visit to the cemetary....I am here for you if you need to talk! I send big hugs your way!

Kathy--I can't even imagine how hard it must be to sort all of your Dad's items....I am always here for you...love you!!!

Janice--Try to stay warm....it is so scary to drive on icy roads...our were like glass last night around here. Thank you so much for sharing with me, it helps to know others understand your feelings.

Lindsey--How are you feeling? I hope that the "funk" you are in moves on. We are always open to listening around here, so if typing it out and venting makes you feel better go ahead....or like I said feel free to PM me.
______
My day has been so-so.....kind of like a teeter-totter of emotions.....I won't bore you with all the details but as most of you know, my mother in law is not the most caring person......she has been a bit rude and cold today to me in an email, saying that I am being overdramatic and over the top with my emotions. She said that it isn't like my mother lived right up the road from me, and that when she loses her mother it will be even more painful as hers does.
There was more but you all get the drift.....I didn't even reply to it, I just hit delete....I Do Not Have the Time or Energy for her crap.

Once again...(goodness I am a broken record) thank you all for listening.....I apologize for being such a downer.

I am making an easy twist to a RR recipe that my boys enjoy.....chili dog joes.....RR did chili dog nachos, but they like them openfaced on hamb rolls
